1. Who is a character?

A character is one is involved in an action of a story for instance in this story is Juan as the main
character.

2. What is the setting of the story?

The setting of the story is at Juan’s work station as a censor, Post Office’s Censorship Division.

3. What is going on in the story? What is the plot?

Juan gets a job as a censor and gets executed for his own letter to Mariana even though he had
intentions to intercept his letter. The plot - Juan applies for censorship job with an intention to intercept
his letter to Mariana. He gets the job and gets promotion after co-workers planned a strike for their
wages to be increased and he does not join them but instead he reports them. He reaches section E
where he could dread and analyze letter contents. Even though Juan as a high rank in the Censorship
division he gets executed for his own letter.

4. What happens at the end of the story?

Juan censors is letter to Mariana without regret and gets executed the following morning even though
he is a censor. He doesn’t save the situation.

5. What does the author want to tell us by writing this story?

The author intends to pass a message that we shall be victims of our own doings. Juan becomes a censor
not because he has passion in it. He wants to intercept is letter which he does not save the situation in
the end. He gets executed.
