HYDROSTATIC TEST FOR EQUIPMENT (GENERAL

REQIRMENTS, TEST GUAGES AND PROCEDURES)

I- General requirements
plain water will be used at test media-
heat exchanger in which austenitic st.st materials will be exposed to -
the test fluid shall be tested using potable water with chloride ion content
of less than20 ppm by mass
Metal temperature during hydrostatic test shall not be less than -
17ºc above the minimum design metal temperature and shall not
exceed 48ºc
II- Test Gauges
An indicating gage shall be connected directly to the vessel ,if the -
indicating gage is not readily visible to the operator controlling the
pressure applied an additional indicating gage shall be provided where
.it will be visible to the operator throughout the duration of the test
The range of pressure gages used in testing shall not be less than 1½ -
.nor more than 4 time the max. test pressure
III- HYDROSTATIC TEST PROCEDURE
Water supply to befitted to the lowest connection on the vessel this -1
fitting is to be complete with an adequate valve and at least one calibrated
pressure gauge is connected directly to the vessel visible to the operator
.controlling the pressure
The highest outlet is to be used for venting air and is to be left -2
.completely open until water has reached that point
The highest outlet is then to be closed with a fitting, valve and -3
.vent pipe
After fitting the above to the highest outlet, open valve and pump more -4
water in unit a full flow of water is observed. Close valve
.ensuring that the vessel is fully vented of any air
Open bottom valve(connected to water supply)and raise the -5
pressure in the vessel gradually to the required test pressure after
ensuring that all joints are tight and that all low-pressure filling lines and other
equipment that should not be subjected to the test
pressure have been disconnected. visual inspection for leak shall
.Be done during raising the pressure
Disconnect the water supply pipe from the main supply of the -6
pump, ensuring that the valve to vessel is securely closed and the gauge is
registering the correct test pressure requirement hold
30min. visual inspection of joints and connections for leaks has
.been carried out by quality control inspector
On completion of inspection, release the top vent valve, slowly -7
bringing the down to zero. At zero open bottom valve to release
water from bottom water feed pipe, after disconnecting any top
.blanking pad to ensure that a vacuum is not created in the vessel

TEST PROCEDURES

1) Leak detection test for tubes

The following procedures may be used to located perforated or

Split tubes and leaking joints between tubes and tube sheets.

.Install front test ring with gasket -

.Install back test ring with gasket -
.Install blinds to isolate the shell -
.Install pressure gauge -
.Connect water pump -
.Fill the shell by water -
Raise the pressure up to value of hydrostatic test pressure of -
. shell given by vendor
.Check leakages from tubes -
)the leaked tubes shall be repaired by rerolling or plugged (

:N.B
When a test ring is not available it is possible to locate leaks in the floating head
end by removing the shell cover and applying hydraulic pressure in tubes. Leaking
.tube joints may then be located by sighting through the tube lanes

2) Tube side hydrostatic test:

Install PG in channel head top nozzle -
Connect water pump -
Fill tube side by water -
Raise the pressure up to value of hydrostatic test pressure for -
. Tubes given by vendor
Check floating head gasket sealing -
Check channel head gasket sealing -
Drainage the water, remove PG and water pump -
Remove blinds from channel nozzle and tight bolts -

Raise the pressure up to value given of hydrostatic test pressure -
. of shell given by vendor
Check back cover gasket sealing -
Check bundle to shell gasket sealing -
Drainage the water remove PG and water pump -
