Survey of Procrastination and its Effects on their Lifestyle

On 3 rd November 2021, a survey was conducted among 15 Senior High School

students at Valencia National High School, Valencia City Bukidnon. The purpose of the survey
was to gather data and examine procrastination and its effects as the main trigger for Senior
High School Stress.

The survey was conducted by means of a questionnaire given to the students to

complete. We sent out an electronic survey asking multiple questions including lifestyle choices,
and other questions involving what causes them to procrastinate. We used the data to see if
there is any kind of correlations between certain types of lifestyles and procrastination. Our
questions was scaled answers. The scale ranged from always to never. Our sample included a
total of 15 random students at Valencia National High School. The students volunteered to take
the survey by following a link posted on social media leading to the survey. The survey was not
limited to sectioning. Instead, the only qualification was that the participant was a currently
enrolled student at Valencia National High School.

The researchers had spent time in developing their questionnaire so as to serve its
target respondent. With regard to data gathering were accommodating as they understand that
through questionnaire respondents will be aware the effects of procrastination on their
lifestyle. The results will be tallied and tabulated according to the frequency of items answered
by the participants after data tabulation, results will be interpreted using various statistical
tools. The results of the technique use in the data gathering helped the research group to arrive
at the interpretation of the study. The data collected in this study were organized and classified
based on the research and the problems formulated. The data were coded, tallied and
tabulated to facilitate the presentation and interpretation of results.

After analyzing the results, the majority of the students, who are the participants in the
study believed that the number one reason people procrastinate is they simply don’t feel like
doing the things they need to do especially when the task is hard to answer. 86.7% of people
indicated that procrastination has a negative effect on their happiness, and 100% of people
indicated that procrastination never has a positive effect on their lifestyle.

In our scaled survey located in appendix, 20% of people said they get distracted easily.
Another large group, 46.7% of people, “always” that they work better under pressure. About
33.3% of people say that they often find it difficult to begin a paper or project. This indicates to
me that, even if something is difficult, students would prefer be pressured and procrastinate
than seek assistance.

Across all participants, 60% of people spent on almost half of their time online
procrastinating, amounting to an average of 1-2 hours of academic procrastination each day,
though there was substantial variability in this across individuals, meaning that many people
procrastinated to a much greater or lower degree than average.

On the basis of these findings, it would seem that the majority of the participants from
Valencia National High School appears that they procrastinate at some point in their lives.
Procrastination is a detrimental and widespread behavior that drives us to put off important
tasks. The obtained results indicate that there is a negative relationship between lifestyle and
procrastination among the students. Procrastination is a ubiquitous phenomenon that may
affect people in many aspects of their lives and is linked to a variety of repercussions such as
bad grades, lower salaries, greater stress, and a higher prevalence of physical and mental
health problems. Students work, socialize, and attend a variety of classes. What appears to be
the most significant problem is that students are not motivated by the task that is allocated to
them. If a task does not specifically relate at the moment, people are less likely to complete it.
To effectively surmounted procrastination, you should first establish clear goals for yourself,
then examine the nature of your procrastination conundrum, including when, how, and why
you procrastinate, before contemplating on the best strategies to deal with your specific type of
procrastination. Students must strengthen their perseverance to view the wider perspective in
order to thwart procrastination. They must perceive that they will graduate someday and that
all of these tasks, small or big will be worthwhile. Regardless of how much work our teachers
delegate, it is ultimately up to the student to finish the work. It is up to them whether they will
be an active procrastinator or simply complete the work.
