(1) EXP Name:-Safety Date :1/10/2008

Group No. ( 4 )
Objectives:- Safety & Chemical Observation

To know how we can use the equipment in the lab in car fully. and to
.fined it. And have a know leg about it

Theory:- is the state of being " safe " ( from French sauf ), the condition
of being protected against physical, social, spiritual, financial, political,
emotional, occupational, psychological, educational or other types or
consequences of failure, damage, or any other event which could be
.considered non-desirable
This can take the form of being protected from the event or from
exposure to something that causes health or economical losses. it can
.include protection of people or of possessions
There also are two slightly different meanings of safety, for example,
home safety may indicate a building's ability to protect against external
.harm events ( like weather, home invasion, etc..)

Categories of Danger

The prescribed "categories of danger" according to the Regulations are:

 Explosive, E

(Chemicals that explode)

        Oxidising, O
(Chemicals that react exothermally with other chemicals)

        Extremely Flammable, F+, or Highly Flammable, F,

or Flammable
(Chemicals that have an extremely low flash point and
boiling point, and gases that catch fire in contact with air
OR chemicals that may catch fire in contact with air, only
need brief contact with an ignition source, have a very
low flash point or evolve highly flammable gases in
contact with water.)

        Very Toxic ,T+, or Toxic, T.

(Chemicals that at very low levels cause damage to
health OR Chemicals that at low levels cause damage to
health)

        Harmful

(Chemicals that may cause damage to health)

        Corrosive , C

(Chemicals that may destroy living tissue on contact)

        Irritant, Xi

(Chemicals that may cause inflammation to the skin or
other mucous membranes)

        Sensitising, Xn or Xi
        Carcinogenic, Categories 1 and 2, T
        Carcinogenic, Category 3, Xn
(Chemicals that may cause cancer or increase its
incidence)

        Mutagenic, Categories 1 and 2, T

        Mutagenic, Category3, Xn
(Chemicals that induce heritable genetic defects or
increase their incidence)

        Toxic for Reproduction, Categories 1 and 2, T

        Toxic for Reproduction, Category 3, Xn
(Chemicals that produce or increase the incidence of
non-heritable effects in progeny and/or an impairment in
reproductive functions or capacity)

        Dangerous for the Environment, N

(Chemicals that may present an immediate or delayed
danger to one or more components of the environment)

Notes: Extremely Flammable F+ and Highly Flammable F

For the purposes of CHIP, a Flammable Liquid is one with a flash point of less
than 55°C, a Highly Flammable Liquid (F) is one with a flash point of less than
21°C (a Highly Flammable solid is one which is spontaneously combustible in
air at ambient temperature or one which readily ignites after brief contact with
a flame or one which evolves highly flammable gases in contact with water or
moist air) and an Extremely Flammable Liquid (F+) is one with a flash point
less than 0°C and a boiling point of 35°C or less.

Notes: Carcinogens

Category 1 - substances known to be carcinogenic to humans.

Category 2 - substances that should be regarded as if they are carcinogenic

to humans, for which there is sufficient evidence, based on long term animal
studies and other relevant information, to provide a strong presumption that
human exposure may result in the development of cancer.

Category 3 - substances that cause concern owing to possible carcinogenic

effects but for which available information is not adequate to make
satisfactory assessments.

:Discusion *
I thing we need know safety equipment and how to use, because in the
lab we will use it and if habent an accedant with any bady from the
groupe we mast know how we can hand del with that stuaition to help
him. and how we carry the danger equipment from the table and but it in
.afare place

-: Post- lab. Questions *

. it used to extinction fires )1
