Assignment (04)
Fresh Concrete
1. Define the different concrete states.
2. State the manufacturing concrete stages.
3. State the fresh concrete properties.
4. What is meant by fresh concrete consistency?
5. Explain using neat sketches the steps of slump test.
6. Using neat sketches, draw the different types of slumps encountered during slump
test. Also explain how to deal with each type.
7. Slump tests were performed on concrete on its arrival at different job sites and the
results were as follow:
Target slump Maximum Measured Slump Remarks
Site No.
(mm) Slump (mm) (mm)
1 150 --- 100
2 75 --- 60
3 75 --- 110
4 30 --- 25 Shear slump
5 --- 150 100
6 --- 150 160
Based on these test results and the ECP limits, state either the concrete is accepted
or rejected and the recommended actions for each case.
8. What is meant by workability of fresh concrete? state its characteristics.
9. Workability is not always properly measured or predicted, Explain.
10. Define each of the following:

• Flowability • Passing ability • Dynamic Stability

• Stability • Filling ability • Static Stability
11. State the different tests used for measuring the fresh concrete filling ability and
discuss one of them.
