Conduct fluid analysis of the water flow passing through a U-tube. The tube has an inner and
outer diameter of 4 and 4.2 cm, respectively. Assume nonslip boundary conditions on the
surface walls. The inlet flow velocity is 5 mm/s and the outlet flow velocity is 4 mm/s.
Determine the pressure and velocity distributions of the interior flow field.

Analyze the flow structure of an axisymmetric conical diffuser with diffuser angle 2θ =6° and
expansion ratio=4 as shown below.
Shape of the flow channel:
(1) Diffuser shape is axisymmetric and conical, diffuser angle 2θ =6°, expansion ratio=4.
(2) Diameter of entrance of the diffuser: DE =0.2 m.
(3) Length of straight channel for entrance: 4.5DE.
(4) Length of diffuser region: 9.55DE.
(5) Length of straight channel for exit: 50.0DE.

Flow field: Turbulence
Velocity at the entrance: 20 m/s
Reynolds number: 2.54×105 (assumed to set the diameter of the diffuser entrance to a
representative length)
Boundary conditions:
(1) Velocities in all directions are zero on all walls.
(2) Pressure is equal to zero at the exit.
(3) Velocity in the y direction is zero on the x-axis.

Determine the pressure and velocity distributions of the flow of air over a solid half-cylinder.
The 20 cm long half-cylinder has a radius of 5 cm, and is placed on the ground. The upstream
air has a velocity of 5 mm/s, and the air in the downstream passageway is at atmospheric
pressure. Assume nonslip boundary conditions at the air–solid interface and the air is at a
constant room temperature of 25°C.

The heat sink shown below has a square base of size 22 mm × 22 mm × 2 mm and consists of

a gap distance of 4 mm in each direction. Determine the pressure and velocity distributions of
the flow of air over the heat sink at room temperature of 25°C. Suppose the square base of the
heat sink is in contact with the ground. The upstream air has a velocity of 10 mm/s, and the air
in the downstream passageway is at atmospheric pressure.
