Introductory Message
This Self-Learning Module (SLM) is prepared so that you, our dear learners, can
continue your studies and learn while at home. Activities, questions, directions,
exercises, and discussions are carefully stated for you to understand each lesson.

Each SLM is composed of different parts. Each part shall guide you step-by-step as
you discover and understand the lesson prepared for you.
Pre test are provided to measure your prior knowledge on lessons in each SLM. This
-

will tell you if you need to proceed on completing this module, or if you need to ask
your facilitator or your teacher’s assistance for better understanding of the lesson.
At the end of each module, you need to answer the post test to self check your
- -

learning. Answer keys are provided each activity and test. We trust that you will be
honest in using these. In addition to the material in the main text, Notes to the
Teachers are also provided to the facilitators and parents for strategies and
reminders on how they can best help you on your home-based learning.

Please use this module with care. Do not put unnecessary marks on any part of this
SLM. Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the exercises and tests. Read the
instructions carefully before performing each task.

If you have any questions in using this SLM or any difficult in answering the tasks
in this module, do not hesitate to consult your teacher or facilitator.

Thank you.
What I Need to Know

This module was designed and written with you in mind. It is here to help
you master the Importance of planting and propagating trees and fruit-
bearing trees and marketing seedlings. The scope of this module permits it to be
used in many different learning situations. The language used recognizes the
diverse vocabulary level of students. The lessons are arranged to follow the
standard sequence of the course. But the order in which you read them can be
changed to correspond with the textbook you are now using.

After going through this module, you are expected to:

✓ Discuss the importance of planting and propagating trees and fruit-
bearing trees and marketing seedlings (TLE6AG-0a-1)

What’s In

Have you experience sitting under the shade of a tree? What have you felt?
In our community, there are many trees and fruit-bearing trees that we can see.
Can you identify them? Write your answer on your EPP notebook.

What’s New

Trees are erect plants with single woody stem capable of reaching a height of
20-25 feet upon reaching maturity. It is important to man because it helps
maintain ecological balance which is a give- and- take relationship-mankind such
as: gives off carbon dioxide which trees take in to produce oxygen, it gives valuable
products and amenities to the family and community and maintain a healthy
environment.

Having the skills in planting trees means knowing the scientific ways of
planting, propagating and caring for trees especially now a days.

Here, you see the give and take relationship between tree and man. Nothing goes to
waste. Example: waste of animals and plants like carabao manure, chicken dung

2
and dead leaves and twigs mix with the soil to decompose and become compost or
fertilizer. This fertilizer sustains the plants and trees with nutrients which they
need to grow, to bear fruits, and to provide food for the man. Ecological balance
allows every living in nature to survive as long as we take care of it.
Are you excited to know these lessons? I bet you are curious about the
activities that we will discuss in this module.

Let’s start with a simple true or false.

Activity 1
Direction: Write True if the statement is correct and False if the statement is
wrong. Write your answer on the space provided before the number.

_________ 2. A tree can be a material in building houses.
_________ 3. Trees produced oxygen.
_________ 4. Trees produced carbon dioxide.
_________ 5. Trees can be a material in making furniture.

Activity 2

families and communities. Encircle the words that can be either invertical or
horizontal forms.(There are 5 possible answers)

you think are the importance of planting and propagating trees and fruit-bearing
trees?

(Photo sources: Deped Commons)

Trees are valuable to the family and the community for the products and
amenities they give such as:
➢ Wood used as fuel for cooking and heating

as seedlings. This can be a start of a profitable business.
• Plant as many fruit-bearing and other trees in your backyard and in
vacant lots to help the community in its beautification campaigns.
• Fruits of fruit-bearing trees are a good source of sugar, vitamins and
minerals, and other substances which have antioxidants and anti-
cancer properties.

What’s More

Activity 3
The Department of Agriculture (DA) in coordination with Community
Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) and the Department of
Education (DepEd) launch a “ Tree Planting Activity :Save the Mother Earth” in
Barangay Katangawan, General Santos City. They have provided the following
seedlings for planting such as:mahogany, rambutan, pine tree, avocado, durian,
santol, narra, acacia, star apple, ipil-ipil.

Let’s now determine which of these planting materials are trees and fruit-
bearing trees. Write your answer on the table.
