1. Summary

This document, “Shimadzu HPLC System Customer Requirements and Proposals from Shimadzu”, was created to support customers with the DQ (Design
Qualification) process.

DQ is the first step a customer takes before purchasing a system. The DQ process is a necessary step for verifying the suitability of the equipment selection, by
listing all the requirements and criteria with respect to the total system, based on the objectives for acquiring the system. If inappropriate requirements or criteria
are designated during DQ it could have a major effect on the effectiveness or economics of the equipment after installation. Therefore, it is necessary to thoroughly
verify the requirements. Shimadzu will help customers prepare the DQ documentation by providing documents such as this one and IQ/OQ information for each
analytical device.

In general, the procedure for preparing DQ documentation is as follows.

1. Clarify the objectives for using the equipment.
2. Clarify the functional and performance requirements.
3. Clarify the vendor selection criteria.
4. Determine the content and frequency of validations.
5. Evaluate the vendor proposal based on documents provided by the vendor.
6. If any items do not meet the requirements, evaluate the risk.
7. Decide which vendor and hardware will be selected.
Thus, it is of utmost importance to clarify the objectives for operating the system and to carefully document the process.
Next, a flowchart of the DQ process is shown.
