SELF-STUDY GUIDE
Week 1-3

Guys, this guide has been developed for you to study and learn more, do your best and remember
that together, your classmates, the teacher and you, we’ll achieve this goal. Let’s get started.

Methodology:

 As you already know we will be developing our classes online. For which we will be using the
platforms Teams and Ferrum.
 I will schedule meetings every week through the platform Teams.
 I will upload all the information regarding the classes on Ferrum.
 We will develop our classes in 10 weeks. Each week we will work on a different communicative
subject.
 Every three weeks I will share with you on Ferrum a self-study guide, such as this one, with
different activities for you to work on autonomously.

Communicative objectives from week 1 to 3:

• Guess what someone is talking about
• Discuss problems and give advice
• Practice bargain
• Plan a walking tour

Competence: • Guess what someone is talking about

We use some modal verbs to express and talk about degree of certainty
Now, let’s work!

Write down some possible expression according to the picture use the
modals MUST, MIGHT, COULD, CAN’T

We can form different structures to give and offer advice

SHOULD + BASE FORM

Choose 4 health problems and state what the problem is, then write pieces of advice according the

 Project:

Choose three professional careers and describe the possible problems you can face after
graduation, and then write recommendations to solve those problems.

Example:
A doctor is a person who care about other people’s health.
Usually doctor studies during 8 or 10 years after their
professional graduation and postgraduate studies, sometimes
they face several problems to find a job.

They could find jobs with a very low salary

They might face jobs in very distance places without water,
electricity, or public services; in some other cases, they must
prescribe some specific medications in spite of people
illnesses.

They definitely can`t be free when they want to share time with their family because they must
attend to very complicated shifts.

To solve this kind of issues Doctor should try to find jobs in other countries and take their family
with them, If I were a doctor, I would try very hard to find a well-paid job, I wouldn’t be far from
my family too much.
Families ought to support doctors because they have many other things to focus on.

Systems engineer:
 PROBLEMS:
1. If they make a mistake, it can cause severe and even irreparable damage.
2. If we cannot solve the problem, we are branded as incompetent and they need to see
someone better than us.

 SOLUTION
1. You must concentrate on what you are doing and not admit distraction.
2. We must be optimistic and trust our abilities.

 What is common to all races are these problems:

1. Knowledge and skills deficit.
2. Too much competition in the labor market.
3. Do not ask when in doubt
 SOLUTION
1. Expand knowledge and give importance to other careers and cultures.
2. Prepare very well and use the diversity of knowledge to offer what other candidates
do not have.
3. Showing interest in doing it well and asking certain questions is always positive and
shows our desire to learn and meet the objectives of the organization.
