Office Supplies

Objectives: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:

Warm-up: Office supplies and furniture


Work in 2 groups. Look at the picture of office supplies and furniture in ONE minute.
Write the names of the office supplies and furniture with their quantities. Take turns to
say them out loud.

Activity 1: Matt’s office room


Work in pairs. Look at the picture of Matt’s office room. Ask and answer questions
about the office furniture, machinery and their positions in the picture.

Activity 2: Finding the differences
Work in pairs. Student A looks at the picture below, Student B looks at the picture in
Activity File on page 78. Describe your picture to your partner. Each student finds 3
differences between the two pictures.

Activity 3: Drawing the picture


Work in 2 groups. Send out a student from each group to describe the office. Listen to
the other group’s description to draw their office.

LESSON 2
An Ideal Office

Objective: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to describe an ideal
office.

Warm-up: Ringing the golden bell


Work in 2 groups. Look at the clues on the
slides about office supplies and furniture,
then guess what they are. Ring the bell to
answer.

Activity 1: Guessing office facilities


Work in pairs. One student describes office facilities without mentioning the
names of the items. The other student listens to the descriptions and guesses
what they are. Then, change the role.
Example: We/ use/ this/ machine/ display/ images/ from/ computer.
 We use this machine to display images from a computer.
Answer: It’s a monitor.

Activity 2: An office movement


“Paula Hart needs to move her office. Her new office is in a good location but
it is smaller than her old office”.
Work in groups of 4. Look at the list of furniture in Paula’s current office and
her comments. Decide what furniture she needs for her new office and gives
reasons.
Sample: She only needs one filing cabinet because she can keep the
information on her computer.

Activity 3: Drawing the map


“Paula Hart is going to have a meeting on the day that the furniture and
machines arrive at her new office”.
Work in pairs. Student A is Paula Hart and student B is student A’s secretary.
Student B listens to student A’s description about the positions of the furniture
and machines, then writes their names on the map.
Sample: First, put the desk opposite the door. Next, place the printer under the
desk. Then…

Activity 4: Free talk

Work individually. Make a list of equipment and furniture that you would like
to have in your ideal office, where you put them and why you need them.
Present your talk in front of the class.
