Talk about one of the 4 Ps in the marketing mix: Product, Place, Promotion,
Price

The marketing mix is a tool used to help companies determine the unique market and
selling point of a product or service.

+ P is “Product”. A product is usually a tangible product – something you can see or

touch – such as: the actual food and drink served in a hotel restaurant. A service is
intangible: it can’t be touched such as the work of the waitress or the bar staff or the
housekeeping in a hotel. The travel industry products are therefore intangible. They only
have a limited life and no longer exist after the departure date has passed.

+ P is ‘Place’. This means deciding how the product will be distributed / dɪˈs.trɪ.bjuːt /
and where people will buy it. In the past, most products were sold through travel agents.
But these days, many customers book online directly with the operator / ˈⱭː.pə.reɪ.t̬ ɚ / or
airline, so the place is not so important.

+ P is ‘Promotion’. It is so important. We can use direct mail, websites, advertisements /

æd.vɝːˈtaɪz.mənt / on TV and in the press, telemarketing and point-of-sale material. In
addition to this, we also use offering discounts, promotional codes and loyalty / ˈLɔɪ.əl /
programmes.

+ P is ‘Price’. The cost of a package is very important. The customer’s benefits must be
greater than the costs. The price needs to be cheaper or more or the same as the price
charged by the nearest competitor offering a similar product or service.

Most people book hotels online or through brochures, they often use their own

diamond symbols to rate hotels.

The stars reflect / rɪˈflekt / the number and range of facilities / fəˈsɪl.ə.t̬ i / provided

9. Describe a works of art: The Starring Night of artist Vincent van Gogh.

I am not exactly a big fan of art as I find them quite difficult to understand.
However, there is this painting that really mesmerized right at the moment I saw it on the
internet. It was abstract landscape painting of an expressive night sky over a small
hillside village named The Starring Night by famous Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh.
This was one of his most famous canvas oil paintings, painted in June 1889. Currently, it
is on display at the Museum of Mordern Art in New York City, USA. It was a picture at
night, but painted during the day by his memory, the painting depicts the village of Saint-
Rémy under the starry night sky, with swirls in the view from Window of Van Gogh's
hospital room at the Saint-Rémy asylum in the south of France. Many feel that van Gogh
´s turbulent quest to overcome his illness is reflected in the dimness of the night sky. The
village is painted in dark colors but the stars and the moon stand out against the sky with
two colors of yellow and white. That is the big attention grabber of the painting. The
painting has shown the artist's magical optimism in the room at the asylum. Especially
the cypress tree is likened to the soul of the artist, strong but melancholy with dark green
color, the top of the tree reaching out to welcome the light though fragile but full of hope.
