TRAFFIC ALLEVATION THRU NETWORK OF SUSTAINBALE & INNOVATIVE TRANSPORTATION

Transportation is an essential part of our daily life. Everyday students need to go to school, we need to
go to the market, we need to go to work to make a living, and products are transported to the other side of the
supply chain. Transportation has a big impact in our life to communicate to the world and sustain the country’s
economy.
In the given module, a framework was proposed by the Department of Transportation (DOTr). There
stated what are the actions to be be avoided, to be improved, and to be shifted to reduce the traffic. To me, the
framework was a very disciplinary approach to the issue on hand. I believe to create a more effective result; an
interdisciplinary approach would be best. Traffic is not only a problem for one department, but for the whole
country. It affects more than just one aspect of life. One good example would be looking at the traffic as one
source of economic loss. Opening more job opportunities in the rural areas and increasing the salaries will also
help. Migration of people from the rural to urban areas increases the demand for public transportation in urban
areas hence increasing the transport congestion.
PUJ modernization is a good addition to the strategic planning. But, are we really going to limit it to the
vehicle? Why not also develop the modernization of the entire transport system? Make use of mobile phone. It’s
2021 already and technology is so advanced now. Everyone has mobile phones, with COVID-19 happening, this
is a great way to reduce the transfer of the virus to different surfaces. It’s a good idea to create a beep card app,
and it should also be loadable in the most high-tech way possible! Gcash, paymaya, bank transfer, scan to load?
This will also help in reducing the lines in our railways. In some countries a mobile app is also used to track the
arrival of bus line or railway line. If we can make this efficiently, it will also help in time management of the
commuters.
The railway system that is currently being implemented is a good addition to our transport system. Only
that because there are a lot of time that they breakdown during operating hours and that is an additional hassle
to the commuters. Also, it is very Luzon-based. We can also create a railway route for provincial travels. Bullet
trains to rural areas will help in decreasing the provincial buses on the main roads of manila. It’s still a big dream,
but conceptualizing it is already a big step and it’s making my heart flutter with excitement! Imagine EDSA during
the holidays? That’s a big relief to each car owners’ life.
If we really want to encourage the citizens to use the public transport, there should be steps being seen
towards improving the system. Implementing the traffic rules, jay walking, and strictly adhering to the provisions
created will be a big help. I really believe that the problem should be addressed through the roots, and one root
problem is the corruption among our traffic enforcers. Corruption is prioritized rather than implementing the rules
and regulations! As a citizen, we also lack discipline and respect to the regulations of our own country. If we want
the system to improve, we shouldn’t be afraid of the changes coming our way.
