Gerund is a verb + ing that is used a noun or part of a noun phrase (Read + ing = Reading)

Gerund can be function as:

 Gerund as subject: Reading is a good hobby


 Gerund as Object: Do you mind helping me?
 Gerund as Object of Preposition: Thank you for coming
