Part Three. (15 marks) The language of young learners: adaptation and
accommodation
Dinosaurs lived in the Mesozoic Era, from about 240 million to 63 million years
ago. During that time, reptiles of all sizes ruled the land, sea and sky. The
climate was probably almost tropical, warm and wet all year round, although it
may have got cooler towards the end of the era. The land mass of the earth
was very different from the way it is today. The continents were only just
beginning to break up and the Alps, Himalayas, and many other surface
features had not yet been formed. The first flowering plants did not appear
until late in the Mesozoic Era, so plant life consisted mainly of cone-bearing
trees, ferns and mosses. The mammals that existed then were all very small.
