DIALOGUES

Reporter: BREAKING NEWS!!! Today I, Simon, will introduce to you an astonishing discovery. A
group of historians have discovered a pen drive which contains some peculiar information. To give
you more insight about the contents, we are joined today via video call by award-winning historian
Miss Seline Smith, who led this research.

Historian: Greetings everyone, I am lled with glee and excited to share about our discovery.

Reporter: Thank you, Miss Seline. We are honored to have this opportunity to interview you. Our
senses are tingling to know about the pen drive. Can you tell us about it?

Historian: The most shocking revelation was the existence of manmade art forms. Artists would
paint by hand. Rather than boring you out of your minds by endless chatter, lets directly take a
look at the contents of the pen drive.

Art Major: Greetings! I’m Vedanshi, presently in the lovely Netherlands and I’m on a tour to
observe the various Art pieces in this country!

My rst stop is the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. Van Gogh was a Dutch Post-Impressionist
painter who became one of the most famous gures in Western art history. He created about
2,100 artworks in his life. A very popular story is also of Van Gogh cutting his own ear o in a t of
dementia. He allegedly wrapped up the ear and gave it to a lady at a nearby brothel!

Now, I’m at The Rembrandt House Museum. It’s actually the house where the artist Rembrandt
himself lived from 1639 to 1656. Now it is a historic house and art museum. The 17th-century
interior has been reconstructed. The collection contains Rembrandt's etchings and paintings of
his contemporaries.

My last stop is The Rijksmuseum, a Dutch national museum dedicated to arts and history in
Amsterdam. On 13 April 2013, after a ten-year renovation, the main building was reopened by
Queen Beatrix. You can see that it was truly worth it! The museum has on display 8,000 objects of
art and history, among which are some masterpieces by Rembrandt, Frans Hals, and Johannes
Vermeer.

Reporter: That was truly a sight to behold! I’ve never seen such intricate crafts ever since I rst
opened my eyes… Are you sure these were all made by humans? And I never knew painters
could be such insane people, I guess you could say Van Gogh became a painter because he
didn’t have an EAR for music.

Historian: Hahaha… yes! I know its hard to believe, but not only were these paintings made by
humans, but even these beautiful museums were human made!

The next video will intrigue you even more! It shows dramas and plays done in a language never
seen before! Its called Dutch and it literally looked like a bunch of key-smashes in English! There
is also a very weird art form called Opera— the video will explain it.

Theatre Major: Hi everyone, I am Jheel! A theatre enthusiast who is currently at the top of the
world because I am in, umm… if you check my location on snapchat you’ll nd out I am in
NETHERLANDS!! Here for a college project but super pumped up because I get to live my dream
of exploring theatres round the world!

I will be leaving for my rst destination which is the Stadsschouwburg Theatre.

(Location change)

I’m at Stadsschouwburg theatre. Although it may appear ancient, It was actually built in the late
19th century. A lot of independent groups of poets, actors and playwrights started to appear in
Amsterdam at the end of the Middle Ages and this theatre was the venue for them.
Stadsschouwburg Theatre was hugely successful and helped to cultivate Dutch Golden Age.
Today it is recognised as one of the most important theaters in the Netherlands and regularly host
premiers and other important productions.

Next, I’ll meet you somewhere I’m very excited to be, which is the Dutch National Opera!

(Location change)

Here I am! I am extremely amazed by the immense talent these singers have. I just can’t imagine
to see me singing something like this. Opera in the Dutch-language is a minor tradition in the
Netherlands. Since the earliest operas were staged in the 17th Century, the preference has always
been for original. The 1834 Dutch-language opera “Sa o” by Johannes Bernardus van Bree and
“Libretto” by Jacob van Lennep are the most notable dutch operas.

The sounds the opera singer is making sure are weirdly amusing! I love it!!

Reporter: What bizarre forms of entertainment these human machines used to have! I’ve never
heard such sounds come out of a human being before!

Historian: It is hard to believe that humans would go on stage, act so dramatic and use such
facial expressions too! Yet it all comes together so beautifully.

Speaking of which, the next clip will show you something extraordinary!

Music & Dance Major: Hi guys, I’m Kavya. If you love music, you love me! I’m currently in the
Netherlands, technically for work, but it feels more like a vacation! I am stoked to explore the
musical riches of Holland.

(Location change)

There is great variety of dance in the Netherlands. The traditional dance is the Dutch folk dance. I
luckily caught a glimpse of it here at Tulip Time in Holland. Since its hardly practiced anymore, it’s
a rare spectacle. My next stop is at Assen, to witness the Dutch Open ballroom dancing
championship.

(Location change)

Ballroom dancing best enjoyed as a competitive sport, lling the audience with thrill and
excitement. Tango has a large following, and rightfully so, as it features smooth and vibey
movements. I’m having the time of my life!

(Location change)

Now I’m here at Gouda Market Square where I see some traditional dutch instruments being
played. I also see the barrel organ being played on the streets and it sounds wonderful!

Some beautiful accordion music greeted me as I entered this hub, it’s so lively and refreshing!

Reporter: Wow…these videos just keep getting more and more intriguing! I wonder how many art
forms are yet to be explored!

Historian: Unfortunately, this is all we get to see for now. It has been a joy to share this discovery
with the world! I believe it is important to know and preserve our history and not underestimate
the capabilities of humanity.

Reporter: This was reporter Simon till now, signing o !
