Procrastination is the act of delaying a certain task over time for a reason

The procrastinators and lazy peoples are not same because a lazy people doesn’t want to do
something….and the procrastinators want to do the work but their mind is not ready to start on that
time.

Detail

Procrastination may be of two types. Negative procrastination and postive procrastination.

Negative procrastination is done when you have a negative reason for the postponing of an assignment.
Such reasons may include worry about making a mistake in the completion of a task and postponing it.
Or waiting for an appropriate timing for the completion of an assignment and postponing it.

Positive procrastination is done when you have a good reason for the postponing of an assignment. For
example if you have time in the completion of a major assignment. And you take time for its completion
to get the assignment in your full command. Or if you divide a major assignment in small paritions to
complete it in a careful way. You are procrastinating in a positive way.

EXAMPLES OF PROCRASTINATION

People procrastinate in different ways and in different areas of life,by engaging in various types of
dilatory behaviors,either intentionally or unintentionally.

The following are some common examples of procrastination:

1. Browsing social media at work instead of getting started on important tasks.

2. Repeatedly putting off a homework assignment until the night before it’s due

3. Wanting to creat a project or start a business, but wasting time looking up inspirational material
and unimportant information instead of actually setting something up.

Procrastination In a consistent and problematic manner, meaning that they experience significant
difficulties in their everyday life as a result of their procrastination
Further more the number of people who procrastinate in general is even higher .FOR EXAMPLE,
although approximately 50% of college students consider themselves to be chronic procrastinators,
around 75% of students consider themselves to be procrastinators in general and approximately 80%-
95% of students say that they engage in procrastination to some degree

It is common human experience involving delay in everyday chores or even putting off salient tasks such
as attending an appointment, submitint a job report or academic assignment,or broaching a stressfully
issue with partner

It can also be considered a wise response to certain demands that could present risky or negative
outcomes or require waiting for new information to

The first and main reason of procrastination is that we have no interest in that work.

Let’s we take the example of a students they have interest in degree in jobs but they have no interest in
study. You need to ask a question from yourself that should I do this work in which I have no
interest…???

And then find the answer..so you select the thing of your interest ,you have to manage your time an to
improve your skills..to make your mind then you can do your work better in less time ….

Simply where we enjoy the thing so there will be no procrastination

Some time people procrastinate because of some financial issues…or som other issues…but if we have
no issues like that so we need to do the work on time and don’t procrastinate..

I don’t like procrastination…I want to complete my work on time because it gives me pleasure and relax
me..if u put your work to tomorrow or some days then it may be not done In good way because may be
some problems can comes to you and u wan’t be able to do that work..so I think that you should have
to work on time and don’t procrastinate …

THE VIEW POINTS OF PHILOSPERS ABOUT PROCRASTINATION

SAMUEL JOHNSON

In 1751 Dr Johnson the great English writer best known for his monumental dictionary, composed a
piece for weekly magazine, the rambler in which he described procrastination ,is one of the natural
weaknesses which inspite of the instruction of moralists and the remonstrances of reasons, prevail to a
greater or less degree in every mind” Naturally Johnson procrastinated writing the article untill the last
possible moment, finishing it in the parlor of his good friend sir Joshua Reynolds while the errand boy
waited outside to bring it to press .This was “typical”, according to another friend, Hester piozzi, who
said that “numberless are the intances of his writing under immediate pressure of importunity and
distress”
Quote about procrastination

procrastination has taught me how to do 30 minutes of work in 8 hours and 8 hours of work in 30
minutes”

SOME SPECIAL REASONS WHY WE PROCRASTINATE

1. Not knowing what needs to be done

2. Not knowing how to do something

3. Not wanting to do something

4. Not caring if it gets done or not

5. Not caring when something gets done

6. Not feeling in the mood to do it

6. Being in the habit of waiting until the last minute

7. Believing that you work better under pressure

8. Thinking that you can finish it at the last minute

9. Lacking the initiative to get started

10. Forgetting

11. Blaming sickness or poor health

12. Waiting for the right moment

13. Needing time to think about the task

14. Delaying one task in favor of working on another.

Types of Procrastination

Some researchers classify procrastination in two main types: passive and active procrastinators.

A) Passive procrastinators:

Delay the task because they have trouble making decisions and acting on them

B) Active procrastinators:
Delay the task purposefully because working under pressure allows them to "feel challenged and
motivated"

Others define the types of procrastinators based on different behavioral styles of procrastination,
including:

Perfectionist: Puts off tasks out of the fear of not being able to complete a task perfectly

Dreamer: Puts off tasks because they are not good at paying attention to detail

Defier: Doesn't believe someone should dictate their time schedule

Worrier: Puts off tasks out of fear of change or leaving the comfort of "the known"

Crisis-maker: Puts off tasks because they like working under pressure

Overdoer: Takes on too much and struggles with finding time to start and complete tasks.

Procrastinators vs. Non-Procrastinators

"Non-procrastinators focus on the task that needs to be done. They have a stronger personal identity
and are less concerned about what psychologists call 'social esteem'—how others like us—as opposed
to self-esteem which is how we feel about ourselves," explained Dr. Ferrari in an interview with the
American Psychological Association (APA).

According to psychologist Piers Steel, people who don't procrastinate tend to be high in the personality
trait known as conscientiousness, one of the broad dispositions identified by the Big Five theory of
personality. People who are high in conscientiousness also tend to be high in other areas including self-
discipline, persistence, and personal responsibility.
