This Quick Start Guide only describes the basic functions of

USM 36 the instrument and cannot replace the operating manual.

1 Left rotary knob for direct gain adjustments

2 Selection key, for selecting and confirming,

for Zoom (long key press)

3 Right rotary knob, for selection of function group or

function, changing settings

4 A-Scan freeze direct access key

5 Programmable function keys F1 … F4,

alternatively navigation keys,
(second operation level, function group CONFIG3)

6 Home key for exit from function group or function,

or alternate between the two operation levels

7 On/Off key to switch the instrument on or off

Connecting probes
Connect the probe cable with the sockets on the top side of
the instrument. When connecting a dual element probe
please observe the correct assignment of the cables:
Transmitter: black – Receiver: red
Switching on/off
– Connect the power supply/charger, if necessary.
– Briefly press the power button (7) to start the instrument.
– Press the power button for 3 seconds to switch off.
Second operating level (settings)

Changing settings (first operating level)
– Select with the left and right rotary knob the function
group and function.
– Select the value with the selection key (2) and change the
highlighted value with the right rotary knob (3).
– Confirm the new value and exit with the selection key (2).
Select language and softkey function
– Select the second operation level Home key (long key
press).
– Select LANGUAGE (function group CONFIG1) with the
selection key (2).
– Select language with the right rotary knob (3) and confirm
with the selection key (2).
– Select F# KEY (function group CONFIG3) with the selec-
tion key (2).
– Select the desired function of the softkeys (5) with the right
rotary knob (3) and confirm with the selection key (2).
– Select the softkey FUNCTION 1 to FUNCTION 4 (func-
tion group CONFIG3), and select the desired function for
the F1, F2, F3, and F4 keys with the right rotary knob and
confirm with the selection key (2).
