CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

(Font size of heading 12 Bold in Capital Letters, Times New Roman)

Introduction should be given in this section. Font Size 12, Times New Roman, double line spacing. All the

subheadings in this section should be in font size 12 Bold, Times New Roman, double line spacing. The first

letter of each word in subheading should be capital.

The introduction should have the following subheadings;

1.6 Background of Studies

1.7 Problem statement

1.8 Aim of the Design

1.9 Objectives of the Design

1.10 Scope of the Design

CHAPTER 2

LITERATURE REVIEW

(Font size of heading 12 Bold in Capital Letters, Times New Roman)

Literature Review should be given in this section. All the subheadings in this section should be in font size 12

Bold, Times New Roman, double line spacing. The first letter of each word in subheading should be capital.

The student is expected to study and review minimum of three recent literature from year 2000 upwards

This chapter shall contain the following headings;

2.1 Review of Previous Designs

2.2 Extent of past Designs

2.3 Limitations of Previous Designs

2.4 Modified Design

CHAPTER 3

MATERIAL AND ENERGY BALANCE

(Font size of heading 12 Bold in Capital Letters, Times New Roman)

Material and Energy balance of each unit operation should be given in this section. All the subheadings in this

section should be in font size 12 Bold, Times New Roman, double line spacing. The first letter of each word in

subheading should be capital.

This chapter should contain the following subheadings

3.1 Process Description: in this subheading a detailed description of the adopted PFD should be stated with

process parameters included.

3.2 Material Balance: A detailed material balance should be carried out on all process equipment in the design;

coolers, boilers, columns, reactors etc.

3.3 Energy Balance: Energy balance of all equipment should be carried out explicitly, using relevant principles

and existing models.

CHAPTER 4

EQUIPMENT DESIGN

(Font size of heading 12 Bold in Capital Letters, Times New Roman)

Equipment design of each unit operation should be given in this section. All the subheadings in this section

should be in font size 12 Bold, Times New Roman, double line spacing. The first letter of each word in

subheading should be capital.

in this chapter, sizing of each equipment shall form the respective subheading e.g. for construction must be

specified

4.1 Distillation column

4.2 Gasifier

4.3 2-phase Separator

Note importantly, materials for construction most be stated and reason(s) for choice.
CHAPTER 5

SIMULATION

(Font size of heading 12 Bold in Capital Letters, Times New Roman)

Process simulation of the adopted modified PFD in chapter 2 should be given in this section. All the

subheadings in this section should be in font size 12 Bold, Times New Roman, Double line spacing. The first

letter of each word in subheading should be capital.

In this chapter, computer aided software should be employed to carry out simulation of the already developed

design at steady state; ASPEN HYSYS and ASPEN+ are the accepted software for this project.

The subheadings for this chapter should include;

5.1 Simulation Software: the reason for chosen ASPEN HYSYS or ASPEN+ for your simulation must be

stated

5.2 Selection of Fluid Package: you are expected to state the fluid package or packages used in the simulation

5.3 Process Conditions: this section should contain a Table that clearly states the process conditions used in the

simulation.

5.4 Process Simulation: Extract or screenshots from the software should make up this section.

CHAPTER 6

INSTRUMENTATION

(Font size of heading 12 Bold in Capital Letters, Times New Roman)

Selection of controllers should be given in this section. All the subheadings in this section should be in font size

12 Bold, Times New Roman, Double line spacing. The first letter of each word in subheading should be capital.

In this chapter, students are expected to apply their knowledge in process control and instrumentation to make

sound judgement.

The subheadings should include;

6.1 Selection of controllers: Control objective must be stated and reason for selecting a particular controller

The control loop of each equipment should form the next set of subheadings
6.2 Control loop for Gasifier Reactor

6.3 Control loop for Heat Exchanger

6.4 Control loop for Compressor

The use of Software in control and instrumentation is an added advantage

CHAPTER 7

EQUIPMENT COST AND ECONOMIC EVALUATION

(Font size of heading 12 Bold in Capital Letters, Times New Roman)

All the subheadings in this section should be in font size 12 Bold, Times New Roman, Double line spacing. The

first letter of each word in subheading should be capital.

This section should be limited to two major subheadings;

7.1 Equipment Cost: Equipment cost should be based on most recent cost correlations and total cost of

equipment must be tabulated. Subheadings should be in the form;

7.1.1 Cost of Cooler

7.1.2 Cost of Mixer

7.1.3 Cost of Absorber

Note: Installation cost, utility cost, Raw material cost should be integrated into this section.

7.2 Economic Evaluation: This section should involve the following headings;

7.2.1. Total Equipment Cost

7.2.2 Production Cost

7.2.3. Estimation of Fixed Capital Cost

7.2.4 Estimation of Working Capital

7.2.5 Total Investment and return in investment
