Guide to Zoom and Canvas



The purpose of this guide is to give you a step-by-step on how to register for a Canvas and Zoom account.

About Canvas

Canvas (canvas.instructure.com) is the learning management system which will be used for the entire
duration of the training. Learning materials such as videos, readings, class discussions, announcements
will be posted on Canvas.

During the registration process, participants were asked to input their correct and functioning email
address. These email addresses will be used by the training team to add you as a participant to the course.

How to Join the Course in Canvas:
1. Once the training team has enrolled you, you will receive an email notification from Canvas Free
for Teachers with the email subject “Course Invitation”. Open the e-mail and click Get Started.
2. When asked to create an account, please do so, and key in your account details (DO NOT SKIP
THIS).
3. Log in using your account.
4. Click on your “Dashboard” and look for the course entitled: Political Party Development Course.
5. Access to the modules and content in Canvas will start on March 1, 2021.

About Zoom
Zoom is an online video communication platform which will be used for all our live interaction sessions.

How to Create a Zoom Account
1. Go to their website: https://zoom.us/signup
2. Type the requested details in the sign-up.
3. After signing-up, you will receive an email from Zoom to verify your email address. Just follow
the instructions in the email that you will receive and click the verification link.
4. The verification link lead will lead you back to the website, where you will then be asked to create
a password for your new account.
5. Participants are highly encouraged to download the Zoom App for the live interaction sessions.

6. For live interaction sessions, participants will receive an e-mail notification on the Zoom meeting
details such as the Date, Time, Meeting ID and Password. These details will also be posted in
Canvas. To join a meeting, simply log into the Zoom application, click Join Meeting, and enter the
Meeting ID and Password.
7. If you already have an existing Zoom account, then you can also use that one.
