Henri Coanda International Airport
Henri Coanda International Airport (Romanian: ”Aeroportul International Henri Coanda”)
(IATA: OTP, ICAO: LROP) is the largest airport in Romania, as well as one of two airports serving
Bucharest (the other airport is Baneasa Aurel Vlaicu; IATA: BBU, ICAO:LRBS). Henri Coanda Intl is
located 18km north of the Bucharest metropolitan area, in the town of Otopeni. It is still largely known
as the Otopeni Airport (Aeroportul International Bucuresti Otopeni).
In May 2004 it was renamed in honour of Romanian flight pioneer professor Henri Coanda, the
builder of the world's first jet powered aircraft.
OTP received recived 5,064,230 passengers in 2008 and is expected to handle above 6,900,000
passengers in 2009. Henry Coanda Airport is the main base of TAROM fleet, Tiriac Air, Romavia and
Romanian Air Force. TAROM (Romanian: "Transporturi Aeriene Romane") is the main air carrier of
Romania, Tiriac Air is doing bussines flights, Romavia makes presidential flights while RoAF is
occupying the south part of the airport and is represented by „Baza 90 Transport Aerian”, usualy doing
cargo flights for the military. During the period when Bucharest Baneasa Airport (BBU / LRBS) was
closed for modernization (May 10 to August 17) all the traffic from this airport was moved to Henri
Coanda Airport

3
Terminals
Currently the airport has one terminal divided into three halls (sometimes referred as distinct
terminals) (International Departures Hall, International Arrivals Hall and the Domestic Flights Hall - at
the ground level of the Arrivals Hall ). The International Departures Hall consists of 36 check-in desks,
one finger with 10 gates (5 equipped with jetways), while the Domestic Hall has an extra four
busgates. Today's International Arrivals Hall is actually the old Otopeni terminal, while the new
Departures Hall, including the finger and the air bridges were built and inaugurated in 1997. Due to the
fact that the actual terminal is approaching its maximum capacity and little expansion is possible on
the current location, a new terminal building (Henri Coanda 2) and a hotel are in project phase; the
new terminal will be built on the east end. It will consist of four halls, each one of them capable of
handling 5 million passengers annually; by 2015 the terminal 2 alone will be able to handle the
estimated annual traffic of 20 million passengers

Airport History
During World War II, the airport in Otopeni was used as an air base of the Third Reich of
Hitler. Up to 1965, it was restricted for military use, and was one of the major bases of the Romanian
Air Force, with a runway of 1200m. Before 1965, Baneasa Airport was the only airport that Bucharest
used for commercial flights. However, with the growth of air traffic, a new commercial airport was
constructed in
the settlement of Otopeni,
where the military air base
used to be. The existing
runway was modernised,
extended up to 3500 m,
making it even longer than
that of Paris' Orly Airport at
that time (1965). Also, a new
passenger terminal was
constructed for domestic and
international flights. In the
late 1960s, when President
Nixon of the USA visited
Romania, a new VIP lounge
was created, and in 13 April
1970, the passenger terminal
was updated to have a
capacity of 1,200,000 passengers per year. The airport slowly become more and more used by airlines,
with a growing number of passengers, and in 1986, it entered a new phase of development. A second
3500-metre runway was constructed, as well as related taxiways. The airport lighting system was
improved and the capacity was increased to 35-40 airport movements per hour. In 1992, Otopeni
Airport became a regular member of Airport Council International (ACI). In 1997 a state-of-the-art
International Departures Lounge with a capacity of 1000-1200 passengers per hour was opened, as
well as five modern airbridges. In 2000, Phase II of the development initiative continued, and the
International Arrivals Terminal was improved. Currently, Henri Coanda Airport is one of the most
modern in Eastern Europe yet development still continues to transform this airport into a state-of-the-
art hub for Romanian aviation.

Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport - The Scenery

Pursuing our wish to make a better flight simulator scenery for Henri Coanda Int. Airport, at
the beginning of 2008 “Vishzu” and “Vichi” have created R.S.D.T.® (Romanian Scenery Design
Team). In February 2008 the first objects where placed in the scenery and in 28 June 2009 the scenery
was finished. Our goal whas to make a photo-real scenery, to include as many details possible and
above all to make it FPS-friendly. LROP 2009 brings many new features such as:
- active jetways (see page 7)
- safe-gate system
- active ground support for airplanes
- airport illumination control during foggy weather (see page 8)
- animated cars and life*
- improved textures and light effects
- realistic landclass (with seasonal texture), buildings, runways, taxi-ways, aprons, cars and
equipment
- improved navigation aids: Rosiori VOR was added in the Affcad file

Legal stuff
By installing the software the user acknowledges the following Terms of Use:
LROP 2009 is a freeware scenery!!! Do not attempt to obtain any kind of benefit by selling this
product or his contents! LROP 2009 is a trademark of R.S.D.T.® and is protected by international copyright
law. Distribution and uploads to any other website of this package or any part of it is strictly prohibited
without the authors permission. Distribution of modified files is not permitted without explicitly written
consent of the authors. Modifications are permitted only to: Affcad file (AF2_LROP.bgl), Misc file
(RSDT_LROP_Misc_placement.bgl), Static Aircraft File (RSDT_LROP_StaticAircraft_placement.bgl),
Vegetation File (RSDT_LROP_Tree_placement) and “LIFE” file (lrop_birds.bgl). We allow any
modifications for afcad file to suite your personal needs regarding Ai-traffic. To increase your FPS you are
allowed to delete the .bgl files mentioned above. Distribution of this modified files is strictly prohibited.

* refers to birds on final approach to each runway end; similar to FsX

Compatibility
LROP 2009 is meant only for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. Installing the addon on other flight
simulator platforms has not been tested. We are not responsible for any harm done to your PC if the
addon is installed on other flight simulator platforms.
LROP 2009 is compatible with Romanian Mesh (romanianmesh.zip) found on www.avsim.com

System Requirements
Minimum hardware requirement Recommended hardware requirement
CPU: 2 GHz CPU: 3 GHz
RAM: 1 GB RAM: 3 GB
Video Card: 256 MB RAM Video Card: 512 MB RAM

If you consider that the standard LROP 2009 package eats to many FPS you are allowed to delete
RSDT_LROP_Misc_placement..bgl, RSDT_LROP_StaticAircraft_placement..bgl, lrop_birds.bgl and
RSDT_LROP_Tree_placement.bgl. By doing this some objects will disappear from the scenery
however you will gain some FPS. Deleting RSDT_LROP_StaticAircraft_placement.bgl may also help
if flying online. For better FPS we also recommend to deselect the “Shadows” effects, set the “Mesh
Complexity” to a lower level and set the “Autogen-Settings” to “Normal”. All this tuning can be made
from your MSFS Settings page. Be aware that other general addons such as custom planes or textures
may also influence your FPS

Installation
Before installing LROP 2009 make sure that all previous LROP sceneries have been deleted from your
FS2004 Scenery Library, then:
1) Move ActiGate.mdl from Modules folder found in LROP 2009.zip into your main
Modules folder of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004
2) Exit Microsoft Flight Simulator (if you are in the game)
3) Move LROP 2009 folder from LROP 2009.zip into your main Addon Scenery folder of
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004
4) Start Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004
5) Go to Settings then go to Add Area
6) Add LROP 2009 to the library
7) Press the Ok button
8) Exit (Restart) Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004
9) Have FUN

Aircraft Positioning – Ground support 

After many many hours of hard working we achieved our ultimate goal: to make ground support for all
jetways on LROP.
In order to see the jetways and all the vehicles come alive insert in NAV2 the adequet frequency (see the
picture above). NAV2 must be active.
A11 active gate and ground support works for standard B747 or any other B747 with a standard radio
stack (like standard 747). For PMDG 747 insert 112.20 Mhz in both NAV1 and NAV2. Both NAVs
must be active .

Runway illumination control during decreasing visibility (daytime)

During foggy weather or any other conditions that decrease visibility (during daytime), pilots landing on LROP
can bring to life all runways lights on Henri Coanda International Airport. This can be done by setting in NAV2
the ILS 08R frequency: 110.30 MHz. (NAV2 must be active). If not instructed by ATC (IVAO) and the wind is
on your side we recommend to land on 08R in such conditions.

Charts
Charts for Henri Coanda International Airport can be found in LROP 2009 package.
