Course Objective:
The Course content has relevance to understand the medical profession from its inception covering laws
governing medical education, training and professional conduct . The basic statutory and constitutional
provisions are meant to train the students with the legal obligations imposed upon them for due
discharge of their professional duties

Pre-requisites: Basic knowledge of general principles of law including those related to


privileges and privacy

Student Learning Outcome:


The learning outcome under this course will lead the students to have better understanding of the
conduct and discipline in relation to medical profession and maintenance of professional
standards
Course Contents/Syllabus:

medical , nursing, dentist, pharmacy & pathology school/college ,
Prohibition of Capitation Fee, Regulation of Admissions, Fixation of Non-
exploitative Fee and Other Measures

Module II:
Medical practices and state medical counsels, Apprenticeship, Indian 20
Medical Council Act, Indian Medical Degree Act, Indian Dentist Act,

Module III:  

Code of conduct & ethics: Historical development, Indian Medical Council 20


(Professional conduct, etiquette, and ethics) Regulations, Conduct for
dentists, nurses and like persons in medical profession.

Medical research and rules thereto, relevant intellectual property laws, 20


constitutional provisions concerning life and health read with
international conventions / declarations

Laws of privileged communications and RTI , consumer law and 20


remedies , Regulatory frame work

Pedagogy for Course Delivery:


The course will be taught by delivery of lectures, interaction/discussions, presentation of papers,
attending to seminars, and study of the case laws
