Visit local organization and study organization Structure along with duties and responsibilities.

Hospitals require precision in the execution of job responsibilities and multiple layers of
accountability in order to function. To accomplish this, hospitals use a vertical organizational
structure with many layers of management. Understanding hospital organizational structure
ensures that hospital employees know their own responsibilities, the responsibilities of those
around them, to whom they report and who to talk to about particular responsibilities or fields of
knowledge.

The Organizational Structure of Hospitals:

 Board
All hospitals include some form of governing body responsible for making high-level decisions
about the organization. A hospital’s board of directors is often drawn from the healthcare
community and is made up of experts in their respective fields. Religiously affiliated hospitals
often include clergy on their boards of directors. Teaching hospitals often include university
faculty from the medical school with which they’re affiliated. Hospitals are corporations and are
therefore overseen by boards of directors. Nonprofit hospitals have boards that often consist of
influential members of health care and local communities. Many hospitals were founded by a
religious group and maintain religious affiliation. These hospitals often include clergy and
congregation leadership in their boards.

 Department Administrators
Department administrators report to the hospital executives and manage the day-to-day
operations of specific departments within a hospital. The chief of surgery, for example, is
responsible for overseeing daily activities within the surgical department as well as performing
surgery. A chief of surgery might engage in public relations activities, fundraising and
recruitment. Non-medical departments within a hospital, such as food services or switchboard
personnel, also have department administrators.

Responsibilities:-
 Working with People: ADVERTISEMENTS: The administrator has no direct clinical
responsibility for any patients that rests firmly on the members of the medical staff who
have the clinical freedom .
 The Enabling Role: One of the prime roles of the administrator is to enable the doctors,
nurses and patient-care team to do their job efficiently.
 Hospital Administration and Staff: Running any hospital calls for a great deal of tact and
ingenuity.
 Staff Motivation: Expensive facilities and equipment do not necessarily make for a good
hospital; it is the people who operate them that make the hospital go.
 Facilitating Decision Making: A great part of the job of a hospital administrator concerns
decision making. There are several kinds of decision making in a hospital.

 Patient Care Managers


Nurse managers and supervising physicians are both patient care managers. These individuals
manage small groups of professionals who provide direct patient care. They ensure that orders
are carried out, that hospital employees are fulfilling their duties appropriately and that
employees are complying with legal requirements.

desk activities, and supervising the support staff.

 Service Providers
The vast majority of hospital workers are service providers: doctors, nurses, orderlies,
physical therapists, laundry workers and the many other people required in order for a hospital to
function. They provide patient care, maintain records and ensure that the hospital is able to
deliver care to patients in an effective manner.

4] Duties &responsibilities of pharmacy:-


Duties:-
 As a hospital pharmacist, you will be responsible for monitoring the supply of all medicines
used in the hospital and are in charge of purchasing, manufacturing, dispensing, and quality
testing their medication stock along with help from pharmacy assistants and pharmacy
technicians.

Responsibilities:-
 Hospital Pharmacists role mainly consists of monitoring the supply and purchasing of all
medicines that are being used in the hospital while.
 Along with that role they also need to manufacture, dispense and test the quality of the
medications that are to be stocked and used.
 Luckily they do have the help of Pharmacy Technicians and Assistants.

 To maintain the prepared standard protocol of asepsis strictly.
 To maintain the hand washing protocol, dress protocol as prescribed.
 To autoclave and disinfect necessary articles, instruments, linen, gadgets, equipments,
etc. and keep ready for use.
 To check all electrical points, in built suckers for proper working condition.
 To communicate with concerned person for proper maintenance of unit.
 To carry out the instructions of the sister-in-charge as allocated by her.
 To prepare the drugs, crash trolley, etc. properly.
 To check Oxygen, Carbon dioxide, Nitrous Oxide etc. for proper use.
 To check monitor, ventilator, all life saving gadgets for proper working condition.
 To fumigate the department periodically.

Responsibilities:-

 She will ensure to make the ward clean and tidy including bed.
 She will keep all articles well arranged and maintain the inventory.
 She will take the report, make bed to bed round at the time of changing of the shift of the
unit.
 She will orient the new patient with ward.
 She will help the ward sister for supervision of work of Group D allotted in the ward for
maintenance of cleanliness and sanitation.
 She will make list of patients belongings and keep in safe custody, according to laid down
policy of the hospital.
 She will keep a sub stock of drugs, linen and other supplies for ward maintenance.
 She will maintain poisonous drugs registered.
 She will sterilized all articles, maintain all equipments, gadgets, electrical connections Sight,
fan etc.
 She will indent drugs, diet, and other supplies if necessary.
 She will vigilant to protect the patient from injury or accident by providing side rail.
 She will write report of each shift and sign the report after checking properly.
