INTRODUCTION

N: Hi, everybody, today I and my partner, Huyen are going to play the role of two
managers working for a food company, Organic 3000, in Sydney, Australia. We will
exchange information about four important customers who are visiting our head
office next week and discuss with each other which suitable restaurant is to take our
customers to. Let’s get started.

CONVERSATION
H: Hi, Nhung. Do you have any free time? I wanna discuss with you a few issues
about some customers visiting us next week.

N: Oh, of course. I’ve intended to find you to mention this but I couldn’t because I’ve
been up to my ears in work all week. I’m so sorry.

H: Yeah, no problem. So, there are four visitors in total but I’ve just received
information about two of them. They are Mrs.Tiffany from America and Mr.Takashi
from Japan. We’ve been assigned to welcome them warmly and have a lunch with
them at a restaurant. Here is some main information about Mrs. Tiffany and Mr.
Takashi: Mrs.Tiffany prefers hot, spicy food and quiet restaurant without music. She
doesn’t like seafood or travelling a long distance by car. Speaking about Mr.Takashi,
it seems that his taste contrasts with hers. High-quality seafood and delicious
desserts in a beautiful restaurant with soft music are what he’s fond of. Additionally,
he dislikes hot, spicy food. Do you have any notices about the other guests ?

N: Yes, David has just sent me a text about them this morning. They’re Mrs.Hanna
and Mr.Nigel. The former is German and the latter is English. Let me check…oh, you
should be surprised. Their preferences are quite compatible. They are both into
vegetarian dishes and lively restaurants. Besides, they’re not a big fan of meat dishes
and expensive restaurants that aren’t value for money.

H: Ok, give me a minute to take notes….so, we’ve had information about four
customers, the next item on the agenda is deciding on a suitable restaurant to take
them to. There are 3 options for us. Have you heard of them?

N: Yes, I have. They’re Paco and Rosita, Kerala sands, and The Happy Lobster, right?
I’m interested to hear your opinion about them.

H: well, personally I think Kerala sands is a good choice. It’s a south Indian restaurant
with high-quality main courses like vegetable curries, prawns with garlic and cabbage
and many desserts. Of course, they also have a variety of spicy foods for Mrs. Tiffany
to choose. On the plus side, there are lots of parking spaces in the restaurant and the
price is pretty reasonable, about 70 dollars per person.

N: Hmmm but I read some feedback from customers and they said that this
restaurant wasn’t very spacious and food portion was rather small. Do you think
these features affect our meeting a lot?
H: yeah, I read them too, but I suppose that they are merely some trivial matters.

N: I see what you mean, but vegetarian dishes in this restaurant’s menu aren’t
diverse. It seems to have only vegetable curries. Is this too tedious? You should
remember that two out of four people enjoy that kind of food. And one more thing,
Kerala sands isn’t likely to be appropriate for Mr. Takashi, who’s partial to high-
quality seafood, is it?

H: Oh, thanks for reminding me of them. Perhaps I was too hasty. However, I still
believe that Kerala sands is better than Paco and Rosita.

N: Yeah, I couldn’t agree with you more. Although this Mexican restaurant locates in
the city centre and serves delicious meals at low prices, it’s difficult to find parking
spaces in that area. Most notably, it doesn’t provide dessert that makes the meal
more impressive and memorable.

H: That’s right. It’s more suitable for family meals than business ones. So, how do
you feel about The Happy Lobster?

N: Hmmm actually, it has appealed to me in the first place.

H: Really ?

N: Yes, you see…firstly, The Happy Lobster isn’t far from the city centre, just 20
minutes by car and parking is available. Secondly, the atmosphere there is formal
and elegant with classical music playing all the time. I bet that even someone who
prefers quietness is also captivated by it.

H: you mean…Mrs. Tiffany?

N: Exactly, last but not least, the restaurant has top-class food that meets everyone’s
needs. Despite the fact that its specialties are giant crab with spring onions and
many other seafood dishes, vegetarian and meat dishes are also very popular with
customers.

H: Do you think that Mrs. Tiffany will like beef and pork dishes of this restaurant ? it
is said that she just ordered them if there was no spicy food.

N: Oh, don’t worry about this. I do believe that they will attract lots of her attention
once she gives them a try. You know…The restaurant is always mentioned in all the
guide books, even some famous food critic paid it many compliments. I have
confidence in the services of this restaurant.

H: Ok, I see your point, but what bothers me the most is the long period of waiting
for service and the bill, oh and the average cost as well, about 120 dollars per
person. I assume that this price is fairly high, we can’t make sure whether Mrs.Hanna
and Mr. Nigel will find it worth that much money or not.

N: Hmmm As I mentioned before, there’s no doubt about quality of the restaurant.

And from the beginning, we’ve been thoroughly informed that they are very
important customers, so I think it’s necessary to prepare everything in the most
thoughtful way. In addition, this restaurant is so well-known that slow service is
inevitable. Customers possibly understand the condition and sympathize with us.

H: When waiting , we can bring up some general information about our company’s
upcoming campaign to observe their attitudes and reactions. If fortunate, we may
managed to gain a better customer insight.

N: Yes! Absolutely! That’s a good idea.

H: Ok, so let’s choose The Happy Lobster for the meeting next week. I will contact
financial department to discuss budget specifically. Bye, see you soon.

N: Bye!
