Chapter 1 - Changes & Upgrades
• The LA-3 chassis incorporates 4 separate microprocessors (ATI, TV, WE, and DE), which will be discussed in Chapter 7.

• The lamp and lamp-drive wattage and physical design has change for the WF and XS models. The lamp and lamp-driver wattage has been in-
creased to 132W (from 100W for the LA-2 chassis). The physical design of the lamp provides better ventilation for keeping the lamp cooler. The
lamp and lamp-driver for the WE model remains the same as in the LA-2 chassis at 100W.

• The DIC2 & C2-boards (found in the LA-2 chassis) are now integrated on to the B-board in the LA-3 chassis. The C2-board functions have actual
been split between the B-board and the C-board on the LA-3 chassis. All the data for picture quality (e.g. gamma and white balance) are located on
the C-board, which comes as part of the optical assemble.

• There is no I-link (IEEE-1394) capabilities on the LA-3 chassis.

• There is Dolby Virtual available for XS models only. There is TruSurround for all models (WE,WF, and XS).

• ATSC & Main tuner functions are integrated into the Q-Box module. There is actually one RF tuner and two decoders to handle the ATSC and
NTSC (Main) signals. The Sub-tuner is a separate module located on the A-board.

• The addition of the new CableCard Interface (also reference POD-01 training course) enables the LA-3 chassis to accept and decode digitally
scrambled channels for the cable-provider without the need for a set-top box. The CableCard is a uni-directional device. Therefore, programs such
as pay-per-view and video-on-demand are not directly accessible through the CableCard. The cable-provider must be contacted via telephone to
order these programs.

• The addition of HDMI Interface enables the LA-3 chassis to receive uncompressed high-definition video and audio data from external devices such
as a satellite receiver. This interface is backwards compatible with the previous video only digital interface (DVI).

• The addition of a Wide Zoom mode that can fill the screen for a 1080i 4:3 signal will enable the viewer to eliminate the thick vertical bars on either
side of the picture when this format and aspect ratio is transmitted by the broadcast. Previously if this signal was received the bars could not be
eliminated and a possible burn pattern could occur if the picture is viewed in this state for long periods of time.

• There are two internally generated test-pattern signal sources in the LA-3 chassis located in the Q-Box module (ATI microprocessor) and on the
C-board in the 3D Gamma IC.

• The LA-3 chassis audio output amplifiers are completely digital S-Master Audio Outputs, which will be (also ref. A126 training course).
• The color correction (Jepico) IC (located on the C-board is in the XS model only.
