IV. WRITING (60 points)

Part 1. Read the following extract and use your own words to summarize it. Your
summary should be between 100 and 120 words.

Not everything about globalization is beneficial. Any change has winners and losers,
and the people living in communities that had been dependent on jobs outsourced (nha
thau phu) elsewhere often suffer. Effectively, this means that workers in the developed
world must compete with lower-cost markets for jobs; unions and workers may be
unable to defend against the threat of corporations that offer the alternative between
lower pay or losing jobs to a supplier in a less-expensive labor market.

The situation is more complex in the developing world, where economies are
undergoing rapid change. Indeed, the working conditions of people at some points in
the supply chain are deplorable te hai. The garment quan ao industry in Bangladesh,
for instance, employs an estimated four million people, but the average worker earns
less in a month than a U.S. worker earns in a day. In 2013, a textile factory building
collapsed, killing more than 1,100 workers. Critics also suggest that employment
opportunities for children in poor countries may increase the negative impacts of child
labor and lure cam do children of poor families away from school. In general, critics
blame the pressures of globalization for encouraging an environment that exploits boc
lot workers in countries that do not offer sufficient protections.

Studies also suggest that globalization may contribute to income disparity su chenh
lech and inequality between the more-educated and less-educated members of a
society. This means that unskilled workers may be affected by declining wages, which
are under constant pressure from globalization.

The given passage figures out several noticeable downsides of globalization trend
which has a more significant impact on developing areas. First and foremost, the
workforce competition emerges in developed countries where the current workers are
at risk of obtaining a less amount of salary or being unemployed due to lower-paid
labors. Worse still, the labor markets in developing regions of the world are
experiencing a lamentable process in which the major workforces do not get an
adequate insurance. Furthermore, a higher level of students dropping out of school is
resulted from the increase in the number of poor children involved in working exploit.
Notwithstanding, according to the globalization burden, amateur labors may suffer
from disparity earning compared with the professionals. (120 words)

Part 2. The table below shows the numbers of visitors to Ashdown Museum during
the year before and after it was refurbished tan trang lai. The charts show the result
of surveys asking visitors how satisfied they were with their visit, during the same
two periods.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make
comparisons where relevant.

You should write about 150 words.

The given table depicts the figure of people visiting Ashdown Museum while the two
pie charts compare the satisfaction level of visitors before and after its renovation. It is
readily apparent that after having been repaired, the museum attracted a larger number
of visitors, leading to a higher pleasure level.

It can be seen from the table that while there were 74,000 people visiting the museum
before the reconstruction, the number grew considerably to 92,000 visitors later.
Consequently, the percentage of very pleasant people witnessed a soar from 15% to
35%. A similar tendency can be seen in satisfied visitors in which the rate went up
moderately from 30% to 40%.

By contrast, the rate of people who feel unpleasant was plummeted by almost a third
compared to that before reconstructing (40%). Meanwhile, there were 5% decline in
the very dissatisfied visitors proportion from 10% initially and around 5% people who
did not give any comment after arriving the museum in both two periods. (164 words)

Part 3. Write an essay of 350 words on the following topic. [General topic:
Immigration and asylum]
The situation of illegal immigration to the UK is getting worse and worse, still
now an insoluble problem for this government. From your background
knowledge, why would those channel-crossing immigrants make such a
dangerous journey? Discuss the impact of this problem.

As a result of developing disparity, settlers tend to immigrate illegally to developed

countries such as England with belief that they would have better treatment.
Consequently, this trend which may wreak havoc is considered as an irresolvable
problem to any government. This following essay will shed light of the driving force behind
the refugees’ adventure and the downsides of unauthorized movement.

One the one hand, for most, the conflict is the principle driver. The retreat of Islamic State
and the public authority's recapturing of command over the vast majority of the nation has
implied a decrease in battling, however most Syrians abroad have no plans to get back to
the nation, dreading they will be rebuffed. Furthermore, the conditions there have not
enhanced and that their offspring have no livelihoods or hope in the relocation camps
where they are compelled to reside.

One the other hand, undocumented movement comprises both pros and cons in the
international growth. First and foremost, since unlawful labors commonly work for fewer
wages, businesses don't need to take on employees whom they should be paid the ordinary
rate. In other words, factories can set aside cash is by not paying for personal insurance for
illicit representatives. However, a significant number of low-paying positions in specific
industries are lost to expatriates, when these positions could assist with setting up native
labor force for daily cost of living. For example, several part-time jobs that require workers
in basic skills are no longer as available to teenagers and retiree. As a result, local residents’
life is deeply affected in multiple aspects.

In conclusion, the desire to change life is the most primary motive of cross-border settlers
that may pose threat to local labors in workforce competition apart from its advantage in
businesses’ budget. Therefore, it is advisable that it is necessary for the government to
come up with a reasonable immigration policy to ensure fairness for domestic and foreign
workers. (322 words)
