Each year more and more students choose to study online. Do the advantages of this
outweigh the disadvantages?

In this modern tech era and due to the pandemic, there is no doubt that more and more
students choose to study online. Although online learning has its own set of advantages and
disadvantages, it seems to me that there are more benefits than drawbacks.

To begin with, accessibility is one of the advantages of studying online which means that the
students are able to attend the classes from any location they prefer, and this can also save
their time and cost as they do not need to travel all the way to their classes. Students are able
to record, share and save the courses and lectures for future reference. In the same way,
studying online can reduce the financial cost. Taking ‘The University of People’ as a
significant example, a distance education university, offers higher education programs and is
an American accredited online university. Students are not required to pay tuition fees but
some administrative fees, and do not need to attend the classes in person. As a result, students
are eligible to attend high-quality degrees at an affordable price from any part of the world at
any time. Moreover, online study can broaden your knowledge, communication, intercultural
and perspective as the online classes are from different countries which is good for
networking with people around the globe.

On the other hand, there are some minor drawbacks of online learning. Sometimes studying
online can make students feel procrastination, lack of motivation and need more time to
understand the course contents and lectures. In addition, spending time on the screen can be
another drawback for the children. While learning online, students may forget how to
socialize in person.

In conclusion, every process comes with advantages and disadvantages together but I believe
that studying online can bring up more significant benefits regarding accessibility and
networking rather than having some minor drawbacks which might not seriously affect each
and every student.
