JOSÉ RIZAL: Sa Landas ng Paglaya reaction paper

I am beyond fascinated and amazed of this man’s love for our country. To be both
talented and smart at once is something that gives him an opportunity and a choice to leave
Philippines behind, but no he did not, and instead chose to return to fight for his main land and
suppress the oppressor.

Spite of having the figure and face of Rizal imprinted or sculptured almost everywhere all
over the Philippines, Filipinos know little about the wonders of this noble man; come to think of
it, the only idea we are sure of as embedded in our minds by the teachers and text books during
the grade school and middle school years was that, Dr. Jose Rizal is the national hero of the
country, where in fact, the republic of the Philippines have not yet formally and legally declared
a single national hero as once stated by Sen. Imee Marcos recently.

But nonetheless though, what I think of this documentary, is that it also serves as an
awareness, that every Filipino must be able to get to know the; life and works of Rizal
profoundly in order to supplement the sense of nationalism and the patriotism for the country
that country that would likely benefit the Filipinos and the Philippines as well for the betterment
and progressive country in the future being united as one.

Our society at the present is the same society re-created by Rizal in Noli and Fili over a
century ago, (which his generation dispelled through the Philippine War of Independence); but
eventually reclaimed to haunt us today--through US colonization and dehumanization-which our
country went through by dispelling our imagination, dispelling our culture, dispelling our golden
age and civilization-thus dispelling our humanity.

Jose Rizal strove to instill imagination, instill culture, and instill our humanity through
his life and works as our path to liberty. As any artist desires, his aim was not only for our
country to endure, but ultimately to prevail.

Rizal`s masterpiece is not just the novels Noli, Fili or his swan song, the poem Mi Ultimo
Adios--which are the Foundational Texts of our War of Independence, the first Republic of the
Philippines and the US Recognition of Philippine Independence on July 4,1946--but the author
of the Republic of the Philippines itself.

His greatest masterpiece will never realize its full manifestation as long as we continue to
deny ourselves our imagination, our culture, and our humanity- withheld from us because of
colonial mentality-which dehumanized generations of Filipinos, and detached us from our own
language, our own culture, and a genuine Philippine civilization which was realized by the
generation of Jose Rizal- drawn from our own innate sense of invincibility and genius.

We cannot achieve the true freedom and prosperity, the problem is the fact that many are
deceive by sweet tongue or by doctrines made by man. Noli Me Tangere and El Fili are the
evidence made by our National Hero that our world is full of lies. From page 72 of Noli me
Tangere it says " But now let's see how the idea of Purgatory, which is absent from both the Old
and the New Testaments, became Catholic doctrine. Neither Moses nor Jesus Christ makes the
slightest mention of Purgatory.

“ON THIS BATTLEFIELD MAN HAS NO BETTER WEAPON THAT HIS
