Get the original copy of your birth certificate issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority

(formerly National Statistics Office) and discuss its (1) competence and impartiality in
telling the truth, (2) willingness in telling the truth and (3) adequacy of data that it conveys.
What other sources do you have at home do you think you can corroborate with your birth
certificate? What corroboration did you establish?

(1) Competence and Impartiality in telling the truth.

The Philippine Statistics Authority Birth Certificate’s competence and impartiality in telling
the truth is dependent on the statement of the witness of your birth. Philippine Statistics Authority
(PSA) they defined “Birth Certificate” as to either the original document or a certified true copy of
or representation of the original record of birth document. Meaning, the basis of its confidential
information comes from what the witness has seen and entried, deemed to be guaranteed
authentic and credible, for the falsification and fabrication of these information equates to heavy
consequences.

After taking a look at my PSA-issued Birth Certificate, I guess it was indeed in luck to see
no errors on it. Prior to my conclusion that it has no errors, I have consulted the opinion of my
parents, particularly my mother, who was with the doctor who helped her give birth. She made me
ascertained that there were no errors in all of the information noted on the certificate as she
continued to explain how she felt and what was the scenario pre and post birth.

(2) Willingness in telling the truth.

Seeing like how its competence and impartiality is evaluated based on the witness who is
giving the claims, the evaluation of their willingness in telling the truth is quite questionable on my
part. Given the fact that the falsification of the information that concludes one’s unique identity
serves a punishment, we can say that the particulars entried in their records are true and genuine.

However, its authenticity and credibility will be guaranteed again by the witness. The
witness shall bear no false information in order to presume that the data the institution stores in
factual. In this case, it is up to the one who attended the delivery in certifying what is stated in the
birth registry. A birth certificate is used to prove one’s identity. In cases of it being tampered, the
authenticity and genuineness is also affected, thus, lessening the credibility of PSA in providing
truthful data to whomever needs it for important purposes.

(3) Adequacy of data it conveys.
The data the certificate conveys is sufficient and acceptable enough. The fact that
the institution preserves the information’s genuineness as much as possible makes it credible enough to
be used in different certain purposes. Personally, I have used my Birth Certificate issued by the PSA for a
couple of reasons already. The authorities always say that their top basis for the proof of identity is an
original PSA-issued birth certificate, so I frequently have to get copies for specific purposes. (i.e. School
Records, Scholarship Application, National ID Application, etc.). It is very important to secure the correct
details presented in every legal identification made, which is most of the time based on the facts indicated
from your birth certificate. This is probably one of the reasons why a Birth Certificate is always on the list
of primary requirements.

What other sources do you have at home do you think you can corroborate with your birth
certificate? What corroboration did you establish?

I could certify and corroborate my Birth Certificate with my passport as this includes details
pertaining to me, with my former School IDs, and most importantly, with what my parents claim. I do not
know if they are telling me the truth but giving basis to their statement made me establish and verify that
the claims presented in my Birth Certificate is factual.
