Chapter 1

INTRODUCTION

A. Business Concept

With the proliferation of junk and processed food nowadays, the business

proponents decided to focus on the idea of making refreshments that can

minimize people’s dependency to unhealthy foods. The team planned of

innovating a healthier, cheaper and unique version of meat balls. Meat ball is a

ball of ground or chopped meat, usually beef, with added seasonings. Through

the process of group sharing, we came up with a decision of changing the main

ingredient, meat, with vegetables particularly carrots. Then, together, it was

settled that “Bunny Balls” will be the name of the main product which is a

mashed or shredded ball of carrots seasoned with salt, pepper, onions, and

garlic. Different toppings and/or coatings are also available to provide a variety of

options for buyers. Bunny balls will be exclusive for the Senior High School

students of Mabini Colleges, Incorporated, and will be distributed by selling

directly to customers.

B. Business Model

The business will raise revenue by creating marketing strategies to be

implemented. First, this can be done by gathering data through market research.

After new ideas are formulated, the process of turning it into action will be the

next step. The business will be giving off promotions and create posters that will

attract the interest of the customers. The business proponents will also conduct

2
different promotional strategies such as sales talking, direct selling, and

endorsement to publicize and promote the products for it to be known and

eventually patronize by the customers. Aside from the main product, Bunny Balls,

the team will also sell variety of dips and cold drinks like iced tea to add up to

their sales. A pleasant service where customers are entertained and

accommodated will also ensure the success of the business.

The enterprise’s overall expenses comprise the cost of the overall

ingredients of the products and are adjustable because of the inevitability of price

changes in the market. Other costs cover the operating cost, labor cost, and

packaging and distribution expenses. The cost will not override the revenues to

be earned and will be manage by applying the right prices of the product. In this

case, the business venture can continue because of the certain and comfortable

profit that the business may earn. The team can also execute a plan on getting

discounts through good negotiation with the vendors in the market. This will be a

great help in reducing the expenses.

On the other hand, cost relating factors may arise such as loss and

damages of merchandise/product, accidents and human errors made by the

employees, ineffective decisions of the team, and inappropriate execution of the

plan. These factors can greatly affect the potential success of the business and

instantly put the business in jeopardy. To minimize the occurrence of these

things, the team must know how to choose the right employees who both have

the skills and willingness to work effectively. Cautiousness in handling

procedures and proper storing and displaying of products should be kept in mind.

3
Leadership is of great importance for the leader is responsible for making high-

level decisions and risks. Lastly, accurate and perfect execution of the plan is a

must for it will determine the success of the business.

The major investments of the enterprise will be the cash and labor. Money

is important for it will be use in starting up and later becomes payment for the

expenses in running the business. Favorably skilled and experienced workers

can contribute a lot of things from gathering customers and handling their needs.

Employees’ outstanding interpersonal and communication skills immediately

shape the reputation of the business.

Financing the investments is a crucial part as it is tied up with the profit

generated. Besides from having the initial capital, an additional capital will be of

great help in managing major investments and this can be obtain through loans

from small-scale lending companies and banks since the team is starting up a

small business.

CHAPTER 5

MARKET ANALYSIS

A. Market Definition

The market of the business underlines the prospective buyers who will

likely buy the products that are being sold or produced. It includes the size of the

market, its geographical location and the competition within businesses that offer

similar or the same product. The proponents chose to have a small size business

market, the senior high students of Mabini Colleges, which corresponds with the

small business that they’re going to establish. Carrot Food Makers’ main product,

Bunny Balls, already exist in the market and is available in some business

venture particularly, Vegette and Cup n’ Cake. They are the two direct

competitors that had been identified, offering the same product which is a food

ball made from carrots. The business’ food stall is located on Gov. Panotes Ave.

Daet, Camarines Norte, where the school and the target market are situated.

B. Demand

Demand set out the consumers’ drive and willingness to purchase a

specific product and avail certain services. To analyze the demand, the business

proponents identified the historical demand as well as the projected demand of

carrot balls. This is done through the target market of the business which is

composed of a total of 1,507 students. With the use of Slovin’s formula, 316

12
students had been drawn out from the total population making it the respondents

to the survey that the proponents had conducted.

Table 3 shows the projected demand for the year 2021-2023. The total

annual demand was computed by getting the projected population through

adding an increase of 6% to the past one. Multiplying the 92% of the population

to the average annual consumption also results to its annual demand.

C. Supply

Supply describes the total amount of goods and services offered to the

consumers. To analyze the supply, the proponents conducted an interview to

competing enterprises in order to know the information needed to identify the

amount of carrot balls produced monthly and annually along with the monthly

increase in sales.

Table 6 shows the Demand and Supply Gap for Carrot Balls and Market

Shares. The Gap is computed by subtracting the total supply from the total

demand. The market shares are computed by dividing the product to the gap

between the demand and supply and by multiplying to 100%. It must be noted

that the average increased in projected product capacity is 10% annually.

D. Industry Dynamics

Competition is inevitable in any business venture. Entering the business

industry requires a lot of hard work, perseverance and innovation to create and

introduce products that will surely stand out. Carrot Food Makers’ main product,

Bunny Balls, is a unique refreshment which will make people crave because of its

16
crispiness and consistent taste. It is different and distinguishable from other

enterprise that offers the same product because different toppings and coatings

were available, something that the competitors doesn’t offer. Introducing an

affordable yet healthy product and carefully studying the strength and

weaknesses of the competitors undeniably create a competitive advantage over

the other competing products in the market.

However disadvantages are also evident especially when you’re a

beginner in the business industry. There is a high risk of failure mainly due to the

big possibility of mishandling the enterprise. Competitors who have already

established a name for themselves were a big challenge for the team because

the trust and loyalty of the consumers belongs to them. Since Carrot Food

Makers are starting a small business, emergence of large competitors can

immediately lead to a decline because of the bigger capital and profit gathered by

these competitors which is incomparable to the dependency of small-scale

businesses in loans and insufficient profit. Suppliers also create a big

disadvantage. Finding a reliable and competitively-priced supplier can be the

hardest for new businesses and the easiest to well-established businesses

that already have strong business relationships with their suppliers.

E. Macro Environmental Factors

An enterprise is expected to be surrounded by huge factors that can affect the

business, the industry it belongs to, and even its market. It can be divided into

five categories composed of Social, Political, Economic, Ecological, and

Technological dimensions or SPEET.

17
Socio-Cultural Environment

MJ’s Fresh Carrot Enterprise’ selection of target market was done through

analyzing its purchasing ability. This enterprise aims to determine the different

marketing strategies, trends that would make the buyers hold within the product

that the enterprise provides as well as the needs and wants of the consumers.

Political Environment

In order to have an efficient system and operation of the enterprise, it is

necessary to know the legal effects of acquiescence within the regulations of a

country. Importance of cleanliness, importation of goods and services, and also

the permits and licenses that needed to be monitor is a must.

Economic Environment

Demands and supply is also needed to be tackled in every business and

enterprise. Opportunity often comes disguised in the form of misfortune, or

temporary defeat so the enterprise shouldn’t waste any of it. Supply shall be

observed and analyze in order to maintain the demands and expectation of the

consumers within the enterprise. Businesses and their marketing departments

need to consider the state of the trading economy in the short and long-terms.

Ecological Environment

For the enterprise to have a healthy production and business, we should

seek awareness and capability to give importance in our environment especially

18
the surroundings of the location of a business. Healthier product and respect

through a well-operated business gain people’s attention and is attractable to

make the business increase their sales.

Technological Environment

Technology is now vital for global competitive advantage, and is a premier

of the society in this generation. It is also the key to withstanding the competitive

threats of other businesses. Continuous technological innovation shall be done

by the enterprise in order to keep up the business and to make it wider by time.

Upgrading and improving the products shall also be done and observed to build

the loyalty of the consumers.

19

bunny balls in the target customers. They made the design of the logo as well as

said non-current asset was made with an expense of P20,000 that should be

CHAPTER 7

ENVIRONMENTAL AND REGULATORY COMPLIANCE

Business doesn’t just operate instantly. Certain factors must be considered

and rules and regulations must be followed for your enterprise to run smoothly.

The government imposed certain requirements that every entrepreneur should

comply to operate and transact legally. Thus, the Carrot Food Makers are

obliged to submit Barangay Clearance, Mayor's Permit, Sanitary Permit,

Security and Exchange Commission (SEC), TIM Number from Bureau of

Internal Revenue (BIR), Fire Safety Clearance and Bureau of Food and Drugs.

Barangay Clearance is needed to certify that you are indeed living or

residing in a particular barangay. Mayor’s permit regulates safety, structure and

appearance of the business community. They act as proof that your business

follows certain laws and ordinances. Requirements vary by jurisdiction, and

failure to comply often results in fines or even having your business shut down.

32
Sanitary permit is also required for the health and safety of the consumers.

Republic Act (RA) No. 10611, an act that strengthens the Philippine food safety

regulatory system, primary protect and promote the right of people to health and

keep its populace from the threat of trade malpractices and substandard and

hazardous products. Community tax certificate also known as a residence

certificate is a legal identity document in the Philippines. Issued

by cities and municipalities to all persons that have reached the age of majority, it

is considered a primary form of identification in the Philippines alongside

the driver's license and the passport, and is one of the closest, single documents

the country has to a national system of identification. It is issued in every person

or corporation upon the payment of tax to ensure government funds. Security

and Exchange Commission supervise the overall registered business entities in

the country, including suspensions and revocations of their registrations. TIN

(Tax Identification Number) from Bureau of Internal Revenue for proper taxpayer

identification. Lastly the Bureau of Fire and Drugs and Fire Safety Clearance to

avoid fatal fire occurrences.

Several laws should also be keep in mind. Republic Act No. 9711, otherwise

known as the FDA Act of 2009, which aims to protect and promote the right to

health of the Filipino people and to establish and maintain an effective health

products regulatory system.Presidential Decree No. 856 also belongs to the laws

governing the business industry. It is directed on the promotion and protection of

health especially in establishing a food business given the fact that health risks

are acquired based on what people eat. The  Intellectual Property Code of the

33
Philippines (R.A. 8293) that governs the registration of patents, trademarks and

copyright, and the enforcement of intellectual property rights in the Philippines,

The Local Government Code of the Philippines (Republic Act No. 7160), the law

that governs local taxation in the Philippines, including the taxation on real

properties, and the Consumer Act of the Philippines (Republic Act No. 7394) that

protects the interest of the consumers in the Philippines, promote their general

welfare, and establish standards of conduct for business and industry are also to

be followed when starting a business.

These rules and regulations, laws, permits, and licenses are very crucial

to the flow of the established enterprise because the impact of not being able

to comply to these requirements can entirely damage the business. The rule

of law gives everyone a framework for how to act and operate. It holds

people, businesses and government accountable for their actions. Without

predictable rules and patterns to follow, doing business would be chaotic so

one must always remember to obey and conform with these requirements.
