PORTION FOR THE DAY- PRACTICE PAPER 2 (QUESTION 5 a. )

Guidelines :

In this question , a passage with blanks is set. Beside each blank, a verb is given in brackets. You are
expected to fill in each blank with the correct form of the verb given in the brackets.

 Read the passage carefully.

 Form a clear idea about the tenses that have been used in the passage and accordingly fill in
the blanks.

The instructions given for question 5 (a) states that blank is to be filled with the correct form of the
word given in the brackets. The word ‘verb’ is not mentioned. However, it must be kept in mind that
only the appropriate verb forms are accepted as answers to this question.

Be careful while identifying the correct form of the verb. Remember, the form of the verb depends
on the number (singular or plural ) and person (1st, 2nd and 3rd ) of the noun whose action the verb
denotes and the time when the action takes plce, i.e., in the past, present and future.

Remember : become, became, will become are not forms of the verb ‘be’. These three are forms of
the verb ‘become’. Forms of the verb ‘be’ are :

Present tense : is, are, am

Past tense : was, were

Future tense : will be, shall be.

Verbs with modal auxiliaries such as can, could, may , might etc. should be avoided while answering
this question.

Fill in each of the numbered blanks with the correct form of the word given in brackets. Do not copy
the passage, but write in correct serial order the word or phrase appropriate to the blank space.
