Question:
A project manager has to do a project of coloring of a house. The project manager has to give the
precise cost and time estimate to the owner of the house. The house has 4 rooms, the owner has to
leave the country within 2 days and he has budget of Rs. 100,000 only.
Following activies are involved in the coloring of house:

The cost of a color bucket is Rs. 3500 and 2 color buckets are required for a single room’s walls and
1 color bucket is required for a room’s ceiling. A single labour can work only for 9 hours daily from
8:00am to 5:00pm and his salary for 8 hours is Rs. 2000. If 8 labour workers can be hired for the
project and 2 labour can be assigned for each room, then :

i. How much cost and time is required for the project using WBS? (Marks 2)
ii. Find the critical path of the project. (Marks 2)
iii. Create a scope statement of the project. (Marks 3)
iv. Create a project charter of the project. (Marks 3)

GIVEN:
Owner has budget of Rs. 100,000 only
The owner has to leave the country within 2 days
The house has 4 rooms
Cost of a color bucket is Rs. 3500
1 color bucket is required for a room’s ceiling
2 color buckets are required for a single room’s walls
Single labor can work only for 9 hours daily 8 hour for work and 1 hour for food and tea
His salary for 9 hours is Rs. 2000
Total 8 worker, 2 for each room

SOLUTION:
Duration = 2 days
Working hours = 9 (8 hour for work and 1 hour for food and tea)
Total working hours available = 2 x 9 = 18 hours

Color bucket cost = 3500

Each room wall req. = 2 buckets
Each room ceiling req. = 1 bucket
Each room req. total = 3 buckets
Total rooms = 4
Total coloring cost = color bucket cost x total buckets require for each room x no. of rooms
Total coloring cost = 3 x 4 x 3500
Total coloring cost = Rs. 42,000/-

Cost of each labor = Rs. 2000/-
Labor cost for 1 day = Days x Labor x salary (1 x 8 x 2000) =16000
Labor cost for 2 day = Rs.32000
Miscellaneous cost = 10000

Total work expense(2 days) = coloring cost + labor cost + miscellaneous cost
= 32000+42000+10000
Total work expense(2 days) = Rs. 84,000/-

10% risk cost = 84000 x 0.1 = Rs. 8400/-

9% profit = 84000 x 0.1 = Rs. 7560/-

Total project cost = total work expense+ Risk cost + Profit

= 84000 + 8400 + 7560

Total project cost = Rs. 99,960/-
