Drawing Assignment
Due Date: 20 MAY 2022
A. SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
1. There are two files that you need to submit:
i. Revit file of the structural model that you have been developing in the labs until the last lab
note. The model must be complete and meet all the requirements set in the lab notes. Name
your file as YourLastName_StudentID_labmodel.rvt. (40 marks)
ii. Revit file of the modified structural model as required in Section B of this assignment paper.
Name your file as YourLastName_StudentID_Assignment.rvt (60 marks)
2. The YourLastName_StudentID_labmodel.rvt file must contain the required data in Project
Information tool as outlined in Lab Note 1. Submission with missing or inconsistent data will not be
marked.
3. The version of Revit files to be submitted must be Revit 2022. Any other versions will not be marked.

B. Required Modifications

Modification 1 (10 marks)

The floor slab on the 2nd floor is supported by steel beams UB254x102x28. Design an Embed plate clip
angle connection to connect all of the steel beams to concrete columns.

Note: the floor slab and rebars are not shown

Use the following parameters for the connection design:
• Angle profile: single Australian 65x65x5EA
• Bolts: 3M16 8.8/S
• Studs: 13918SD 75mm
• Plate: 10mm, embedded
Adjust all other parameters to get a sensible design such as shown below as an example. Make sure
that the Structural Framing Component End of the steel beams are on the face of the column before
you place the connection

Modification 2 (5 marks)
The corner joint of the steel beams meeting at grid intersections C.1-3 and G.2-3 on the 2nd-floor slab
are to be welded. Use the appropriate tool to get the appropriate geometry for the corner joint as
shown below.

Modification 3 (10 marks)

The owner of the building wants to add another floor and the most economical means is to use the
perimeter concrete beams on the Roof elevation to support a floor slab. However, additional beams
are required to support the increased load.
Add 300x600mm beams to Grids C, D, F, G, and H at the Roof elevation and change also the beam
between D-1 and G-1 to 300x600mm. Draw the rebars for all of them. The required rebars are shown
below. The negative rebars and the closely-spaced stirrups extend only to one-quarter of the clear

span. Place the work plane on the grid of the beam you are working on and use the under the
Rebar tool to place the rebars between two different locations along the beam. Select the appropriate
Placement Orientation tool, i.e. Parallel to workplane for longitudinal rebars and Vertical for stirrups.
Remember that longitudinal rebars from a beam extend into the columns, while stirrups terminate at
the face of the column.
Approximate dimensions are shown below for the 300x600m beam on Grid D. Note the approximately
300m overlap between 3N25 negative rebars and 4N25 positive rebars. You have to make the
necessary adjustments for the shorter beams on Grid C and Grid H. Keep the same 300 mm overlap
between 3N25 negative rebars and 4N25 positive rebars.

Modification 4 (10 marks)
Place a 100-mm concrete slab at the Roof level as shown below. You do not need to draw the rebars
for this slab.

Floor slab at Roof level

The owner wants to have a staircase added. Hence, a void has to be created on the Second Floor slab.
Adjust the boundary of the Second Floor slab and its area rebars as shown below.

Modification 5 (10 marks)

To reduce the span of the 300x600mm concrete beam between grid intersection D-1 and G-1, a couple
of steel struts need to be added. Draw the additional struts as shown below. Note the centreline of
steel struts passes through the point of intersection between concrete-column centreline and the
concrete-beam centreline at the top, or top of floor slab at the bottom.

Design the strut connection to the concrete beam and column using the End Plate connection tool with
studs. Make sure that you place the end of the strut to the face of the concrete beam / column before
you place the connection. Use sensible parameters for the connection.

Modification 6 (15 marks)

Finally, the height of columns of the steel roof frames has to be increased to 4.0 m to accommodate
occupancy at the Roof level as shown below. All other parameters of the steel frame remain the same.
Modify all the steel roof frames accordingly, and adjust the bracings (covered in Week 10 Lab Note) as
necessary.
