Comparison of like fractions:

In the above example, the share of chocolate given by Akansh is more than the share of
chocolate given by Anil.
6 3
So, 12 > 12 (Since 6 > 3)
4 2
Similarly, 5 > 5 (Since 4 > 2)
Note: When we compare like fractions, compare only their numerators and put the
appropriate sign.
Addition of like fractions: The total share that Varun got is

3 6 3+6 9 3
12 12 12 12 4

9 3
Hence, the total share received by Varun is 12 or 4

Note: To add and subtract like fractions, add and subtract the numbers in their respective
numerators and never add the common denominators.

Subtraction of like fractions:

How much more share of chocolate did Akansh give to Varun than Anil?
= Akansh’s share - Anil’s share
6 3 6−3
= 12 - 12 = 12 = 123 = 14
1 3

is the simplest form of 12

11
, 117 , 111 , 114 , 10
11

Here, 1< 3 < 4 < 7 <10
1 3 4 7 10
Therefore, ascending order is: 11 , 11 , 11 , 11 , 11
Descending order:
Here, 10 > 7 > 4 > 3 > 1
