Regrouping
When adding fractions, follow the steps below:

1) If the fractions are similar, simply add the numerators and copy the
common denominator.
2) If the fractions are dissimilar, make them similar by getting their LCD.
Perform the operation afterward.
3) To add mixed numbers, add the whole numbers, then the fraction part
and put them together.
4) Regroup if the result in the mixed number contains an improper
fraction.
5) Always express your answer in its simplest form.

Regrouping 06
To subtract fractions, follow the steps below:
• Always make sure that the denominators are the same.
• If the fractions have different denominators, make them similar by getting the LCD.
• If the fractions are already similar, simply subtract the numerators and copy the common
denominator.
• Simplify your answer if necessary.
• When subtracting fractions, it is necessary to do the following:
1. Make sure that the denominators are the same. If not, get the LCD.
2. If you cannot subtract both numerators, borrow 1 from the whole number.
3. Make the borrowed 1 a fraction similar to the second fraction, then add.
4. Subtract the numerators. If the given is a mixed number, subtract the whole numbers, too.
5. Always simplify your answer.
