GUIDE FOR THE LEARNER, PARENT, GUARDIAN
AND LEARNING FACILITATOR

To You, Learner:

Welcome to Mathematics 6 Self-Learning Module (SLM) on Adds and

Subtracts Simple Fractions and Mixed Numbers without or with Regrouping!
This module was made to give you with fun and meaningful time for guided
and independent learning at your convenience. You will be able to process
the contents of this Module while being an active learner.

To You, Parent/s, Guardian/s and Learning Facilitator/s:

This Module was collaboratively developed and reviewed by the

teachers, school heads and supervisors of DepEd Division of Cabanatuan
City to assist you in helping the learners meet the standards set by the K to 12
Curriculum while overcoming their different constraints in schooling.

As a facilitator, you are expected to orient the learners on how to use

this module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while al-
lowing them to manage their own learning. Furthermore, you are expected
to encourage and assist the learners as they do the tasks included in the
module.

This Module is about problem Adding and Subtracting Simple Fractions

and Mixed Numbers without or with Regrouping.

2
OBJECTIVES:

1. Add and subtract simple fractions and mixed numbers without

or with regrouping.

2. Rename a given fraction to its equivalent fraction

COMPETENCY

Solves routine and non-routine problems involving division without or with any of the
other operations of fractions and whole numbers using appropriate problem solving
strategies and tools.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW?

Presentation of the Lesson/Topic

One fine day, Mang Tano harvested 5 3/4kg of Tilapia from his tilapia
tank in the morning and another 2/3 kg in the afternoon. How many kilo-
grams of Tilapia did he harvest in all?

Find the sum of 5 3/4 and 2/3 1. Find the LCD of 4 and 3= 12

5 3/4 = 5 9/12 2. Change the fraction 3/4 and

+ 2/3 to similar fractions.
2/3 = 8/12 (12÷4) X 3 = 9
= 5 17/12 (12÷3) X 2 = 8
3. Add the fractions and the
= 5 + 1 5/12 Whole numbers .
4. Reduce the answer to lowest
= 6 5/12 Terms.
