Residence, Amritsar
A Residence is a building or structure that has the ability to be occupied for dwelling by human
beings. The term house includes many kinds of dwellings ranging from rudimentary huts of nomadic
tribes to freestanding individual structures. The residence is a place of repose, activity and utility. One
uses it for daily activities, for recreational purposes, for work. All this activities are different for
different users.
Users who work from home have different usage for spaces than those who go out to work. The other
family members have their own set of requirements, their separate timeline for activities. The house
accommodates the aspirations of all users as well as harmonious entity with interconnected
outdoor and indoor spaces.
OBJECTIVES
PARAMETERS OF DESIGN
1. Circulation/Movement: channelize the movement of the users related with their space and work.
2. Built form and Mass: Space and mass are the raw materials of architectural form; from them the
architect creates an ordered expression through the process of composition.
3. Light: the natural agent that stimulates sight and makes things visible. An expression in someone's
eyes indicating a particular emotion or mood.
4. Open spaces: space is defined as an open piece of land both green space or hard space to which
there is public access.
5. Openness and Accessibility: openness refers to "accessibility of knowledge, technology and other
resources; the transparency of action; the permeability of organisational structures; and the
inclusiveness of participation". Openness can be said to be the opposite of closeness, central authority
and secrecy.
6. Universal Design: The design and composition of an environment so that it can be accessed,
understood and used to the greatest extent possible by all people regardless of their age, size, ability or
