HIGH VOLTAGE LONG TRANSMISSION LINES

Acknowledgement: We would like to express our special thanks of gratitude to our professor, Dr. C. Lakshminarayana,
who gave us the golden opportunity to do this wonderful project on the topic High Voltage Long Transmission Lines which
also helped us in doing a lot of Research and we came to know about so many new things, we’re really thankful to him.

AIM: To simulate extra high voltage long transmission line by using MATLAB.
PRINCIPLE: Long-distance transmission is typically done with overhead lines at voltages of 115 to 1,200 kV. At
extremely high voltages, where more than 2,000 kV exists between conductor and ground, corona discharge losses are so
large that they can offset the lower resistive losses in the line conductors.

THEORY: High voltage transmission lines deliver electricity over long distances. The high voltage is required to reduce
the amount of energy lost during the distance.

SIMULATION MODEL:

BEFORE SIMULATION
AFTER SIMULATION

PROCEDURE:
 Initially we have to open MATLAB to Design High voltage long Transmission line.
 First, we need a grid R three phase voltage source to get this to go Simulink library and go to Simscape, then click on
power system and the click on fundamental block and then on electrical source.
 Right click on this block and click on add block to model.
 Now double click on it, a window will open, and then we have put the values of phase-to-phase voltage, phase angle A
and frequency.
 Now we have to measure the sending end voltage and current therefore we need phase measurement block which is
available here.
 Then connect with three phase sources.
 Now double click on that to put current measurement.
 For this purpose, this distribution parameters line block can be used to represent the long transmission line and connect to
model. Connect receiving end voltage and current to distributed parameters line.
 Now connect display block with rms block in order to measure the voltage.
 Before running the simulation, we need power guide block to run it otherwise it will give error. Set the simulation time to
1 second.
 Now we can simulate by clicking on the play button.
 We can note that measurements blocks are showing three phase measurements due to the reason that we are measuring
all three-phase voltage and current.

CONCLUSION: The ultimate aim of the project would be simulation of the circuitry on MATLAB and implementing in
MATLAB with most positive results and least limitations.
