FIELD STUDY 2
Assistantship Experiences
FS 2 and Impressions
Teaching is a great and difficult vocation. My field study experience gave me a better
understanding of what it takes to be a teacher. There are many adaptations and things that change
when a pandemic strikes, particularly when it comes to learning. Instead of face-to-face learning and
performing an actual teaching to give knowledge to the students every day, the new normal blended-
learning was implemented to continue schooling and learning despite the prevailing situation that the
society is facing, and learning takes place through printed modules and virtual classroom meetings.
Igbaras National High School was the school I chose to monitor, and I had a fantastic day with my
colleagues and former high school teachers there. Taking my first step, I feel as if I'm returning to my
alma mater, as I notice how things on campus are continuously changing; new buildings and facilities
are being constructed to accommodate students' learning needs, and many portions of the school have
been renovated and converted into classrooms. We were excited and a bit nervous the first day as we
entered the campus with the Filipino and English Majors since we were going to face the School
Principal, Mr. Reynor C. Cervantes. Our feet tremble as we enter the office, unsure of how we will act
in front of the principal. As soon as he speaks, the atmosphere around us begins to warm; he asks us
some questions to answer, and the sweat on our hands and feet begins to fall; however, the atmosphere
shifts when he begins to joke about the name of one of my fellow Field Study students. When it came
to choosing our respective years to observe and teachers, I initially chose Grade 7 SPJ and STE
students to work with, but on the day, we started observing, my first Resource Teacher informed me
that she had transferred me to another teacher, who is a Grade 9, SSG adviser, and teaching
Araling.Panlipunan 9, Mrs. Querubin E. Paragua. She has been very strict and wants everything to be
perfect for the past few years when I was in high school, and you should have leadership qualities. I
was very nervous at the time, not knowing how to act or say in front of her, but fortunately, she is not
the type of person I was familiar with when you were constantly with her. We discuss her schedule for
giving and retrieving modules to the various barangays and areas of the town, as well as her online
class for SPJ and STE students. She allows me to examine the students' modules, sort them, and
check her weekly list of who passes the module and the scores that are being recorded. She will let me
carry home the other paper that had never been checked if I don't finish the task at school. She is in
charge of six sections in grades 9, namely Silver, Nickel, Aluminum, Gold, SPJ, and STE, and I will
check and record all of the papers. She has delegated this task to me because she is very busy
assisting her advisee, the SSG officers, in maintaining their leadership despite the pandemic.
It was such a tiring task to do, imagine checking all those papers of different sections with
a great number of students each section, that it the first lesson I learned as a future teacher, the task
of the teacher was not that easy, you need extra time and effort on doing and most of all patience. Next,
my teacher let me witness the Federation Election of Supreme Student Government from different
school in Panay Virtually at the Audio-Visual Room together with the Schools Representative Aljun
Erdao my teacher told me that; “If someday you will be going to be the teacher here at school you will
be the next SSG adviser and by that, you will know the things that should be done”. That was such a
wonderful message to hear and my heart pumps so hard. As I witness the election my teacher really
encourages our participant that he can do it and gives all his best during the speech and she never
5
leaves her student throughout the session. Second lesson I gained, as a teacher you act also as
apparent to your student who needs support and care whatever the events of life that may came. Also,
I witness the oathtaking ceremony of the SSG officers at school, the very first oathtaking ceremony this
pandemic. At the retrieval and passing of modules of the students at the different barangays my teacher
also let me be with her, there where stiff and rough roads along the way and yet the teacher still doing
their purpose, another lesson learned is; as a teacher, your primary purpose is to educate your students
and give all the best you can do whatever it takes and whatever rough roads ahead keep on going.
Then, she let me observe her class on SPJ and STE students and discuss some of her topics that she
had given unto me, I’m a little bit nervous and excited. The virtual classroom meeting is held via google
meet and there few learners that attend the discussion because of some slow internet connection and
chores to be done at home. Some of the students are participative and some are not. They were quite
shy and I was new to them, though it was not that very pleasing observation of mine at least I have an
experience on how to deal with students online.
There are lot of lesson and experiences I have experience for the first time in life such as
being with my teachers’ giving rewards to the students who participate in reading contest, I also
participate on gift giving of the SSG officers presenting “Project K-You”. My teacher thought me
everything that I need to learn as I enter the life of being a teacher, she said it was though and tiring
sometimes, but if you teach with passion and dedication to yourself, you will enjoy the so-called
teaching profession. Field study student observations assist me in gaining a better understanding of
the course that I have chosen. Teaching requires more time and effort, and I recognize that in order to
fulfill my obligations and responsibilities as a future teacher, I must holistically develop myself in order
to effectively deliver necessary knowledge to my students.
Through this field study experience and the teachings that my Resource teacher gave
unto me will serve as my ticket to success and my armor on becoming the great teacher that I ever
dream of. This is a one step closer to chase my dreams in life. I gave thanks to my alma mater Igabaras
National High School who serve as my shelter of knowledge and experience throughout my
observation. To my Resource Teacher, Mrs. Querubin E. Paragua who became my mentor and
facilitator as I enter this field experience. I owe everything to the Almighty God who always there to
guide me throughout the entire process of my life.

STUDENTS ATTENTION PROBLEM AND THE INTERACTIVE INSTRUCTIONALRESOURCES

IN ARALING PANLIPUNAN SUBJECT

CHRISTOPHER D. BALUBAYAN
Researcher

ABSTRACT
Attention problem has something to do with student having difficulty in deciding what to focus on
and how to maintain it. This is indeed, a common problem nowadays in all schools,
both public and private institutions. The dilemma about attention problem was attempted to bereso
lved by some classroom managers by simply putting demarcation line between the regular students
and student with the said deficiency. Various researches were also initiated and they come up with
using interactive instructional resources like visual aided tools as means to address the problem.
As this regard, the researcher conducted this qualitative case study action research which intends
to examine and evaluate students’ perception and experiences about PowerPoint
presentation and video viewing as forms of visual learning aided tool utilized by AralingPanlipunan
teachers in their classes. Students and AP teachers were tapped as participants in the study. They
were asked to go through an interview, and be part of the Focus Group Discussion. Interview
questionnaires and observation guides were administered in the onset. Students realized that, they
are greatly motivated and becomes more interested on the lesson if there is a power point
presentation and video viewing activity integrated by the teacher during class discussion. Based on
experience, teachers encountered minimal attention problem among students in the classroom
when they were exposed to interactive media learning environment. It positively developed the
students’ sense of appreciation and heightened collaborative atmosphere of learning. Higher order
thinking skills were also manifested by the students in terms of expressing their insight on a
particular object they have viewed in relation with the lesson, and their ability to construct their own
synthesis and interpretation of a video clip is developed too. Power point presentation and video
viewing serves as active tool for cognition because it does not only catch students ’attention, but it
also exposed their multiple perspectives of the lesson. From then henceforth, the utilization of the
said interactive media activity as strategic approach in teaching Araling Panlipunan is an
indispensable mean of alleviating students’ attention problem in the classroom. With this, thorough
and in-depth inclusion of power point presentation and video viewing activity in Araling Panlipunan
curriculum must be put in context. Although teachers may also delve into some other interactive
approaches to arouse students’ attention, however, the twenty first century learners opt to find
interest with visual aided learning tools. Further studies concerning the application of other forms of
visual aided learning tools in teaching various subjects to address students’ learning attention is
recommended to be undertaken in the future.

THE EFFECTIVENESS OF FLIPPED CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT IN
IMPROVING LEARNERS’ ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT IN ARALING
PANLIPUNAN 1
Mariel Gia V. Gojo Cruz

ABSTRACT
Students’ learning and academic achievement will always be the heart of teaching.
To keep on the track of helping our learners to have good academic achievement
performance teachers find ways to innovate in terms of teaching styles and
strategies. Within the education world the flipped classroom has been embraced as
a way to encourage teachers and students to break out of old molds and develop
creative, active, learning environments in which to build skills and knowledge. The
purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of this type of classroom. The
research method used for this paper is quasi-experimental design in which the
process consists of two analyses: first is evaluating the effectiveness of flipped
classroom; and second is comparing the effectiveness of flipped with a traditional or
conventional-typed of classroom in terms of post-test score and performance of the
participants in Araling Panlipunan (Social Studies) subject. This paper concludes that
the flipped classroom environment helps our learners to be prepared before the class
activity and enhances the 21st century learning competencies needed by our
learners. Also, this action research attempts to inform those who are thinking of using
new technologies and approaches to deliver lessons in any subjects in the context of
public school.

FIELD STUDY 2
Personal Education
FS 2 Philosophy

My personal educational philosophy is made up of the qualities that I believe a

good teacher should have. How can I presume that a straightforward lecture will suffice
for my students when every child on the earth is unique? This means that it is my
responsibility as a teacher to adapt to each student's learning style and needs.
Every child has the ability to learn, and it is my responsibility to be a compassionate, a
friend, and a coach who stands by my students' sides and provides them with the tools
they need to succeed. The learning environment is created by both students and
teachers; it is not only a place where the teacher contributes; it is a collaborative
environment. Not only that, but I believe that all students are naturally curious, and that
we should avoid the banking concept of education, in which knowledge is simply
deposited; rather, we should feed their curiosity. Although I have high standards for
myself as a teacher, I believe that knowledge includes fundamental skills, moral
development, and open-mindedness. I feel that education is about so much more than
the standardized tests that we must teach our pupils.
The goal of education is to help shape the minds of future generations. I am a flawed
individual, but I selected this career path, this "life" path, to make a difference in the
world. If I can instill in my students the value of kindness, humility, and open-mindedness,
I will have accomplished my goal. My classroom content should be creative, tactile, and
adaptable to the needs of the students. All I ask of my students is that they try, and I will
support them throughout the process. Children are born critical thinkers and problem
solvers; all they need to do now is use that part of their brain more often to improve it.
As a result, my lessons will always include a problem to solve or something else that will
push my students to think critically. Incorporating these techniques will help me become
a more successful teacher and achieve my goals.
As I finish college, begin my career, and progress through life, both my educational
philosophy and my personal identity will continue to evolve. The fact that I am a lifelong
learner arise from my willingness to accept the inevitable, yet positive, evolution of
something so important to me as a person. I want learning all the time, and the fact that
I've never been more enthusiastic about anything in my life shows me that my philosophy
and its development will undoubtedly allow me to continue to grow professionally.
