FACTORS AND MULTIPLES

 A FACTORS OF A NUMBER IS A NUMBER THAT DIVIDES


THE GIVEN NUMBER EXACTLY WITHOUT ANY REMAINDER
 For example, 2 is factor of 10 because 10 can
be divided by 2 without any remainder
 A PRIME NUMBER IS A POSITIVE INTEGER WHICH CAN
ONLY BE DIVIDED BY 1 AND THE NUMBER ITSELF
 2 IS THE SMALLEST PRIME NUMBER AND ALSO AN
EVEN NUMBER
 EXAMPLE OF PRIME NUMBER : 2,3,5,7,11,13,17…

 Common factors of several whole number is a
number which is a factor of all the numbers
 The highest common factor (HCF) is the number
which is the largest common factor between two
or more whole number

 A multiple of a number is the product of the


number with a whole number except zero
 For example, multiples of 4 is 4,8,12,16,20,…
 Common multiple is a whole number which is a
multiple of two or more whole numbers
 For example, 16 is common multiple of 4 and 8

 Lowest common multiple (LCM) of two or more


whole numbers is the common multiple that is
the smallest for all the numbers
