Factors Notes

• 1 is a factor of every number.

• Every number is a factor of itself.
• When one of the numbers in the question is a factor of all the
others, then it is the HCF of the numbers in the question. In
that case it will be the smallest
• Example – HCF of 4,12,20 -> 4
• When a number in the question is a multiple of all the others,
then it stands as the LCM of those numbers. You need not
calculate! In that case it will be the largest of given numbers
• Example – LCM of 3,6,18 is 18
NUMBER PUZZLE
6. Underline the factors of 96 7. Put a triangle around factors of 1

What difference do you find between factors of 1 and other numbers?

1 is the only number which has only one factor.

(second property of factors)
Every number other than 1 has at least 2 factors (one
and the number itself)
8. What is the biggest factor of a number?
Any number is a factor of itself. (property of factors)
9.Can you find any factor greater than the number itself
A factor of a number is equal to or less than the
number
PROPERTIES OF MULTIPLES
10. Underline all the multiples of 1.
Every number is a multiple of 1 and itself (property)

11. Cross out all multiples of 2 in the grid.

What is 52 × 2? What is 121 × 2? What is 1000 × 2?
Is there an end to the multiples of 2?
Every number has infinite multiples. (property)

Are multiples greater or smaller than the given number?

Every number has multiple which is greater or equal to the
number. (property)

12. What are multiples of 2 called?

13. What are numbers that are not multiples of 2 called?
Define even numbers in terms of multiples and factors.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MULTIPLES AND
FACTORS

You multiply, you get a multiple. You divide completely or share equally,
you get factors. Multiple has to be greater than the number or equal to
that number, but a factor is always smaller or equal to that number.
POEM on DIVISIBILITY
’Im ‘2’ and I will be with you, as far as an even digit follows you.

‘3’ will work for us you see, as far as the sum is divisible by 3.

‘4’ is a good chore, if it divides the last two digits on a whole.

‘5’ is our big hero. He divides me if I end in 5 or 0.

‘6’ will always go into thee,as long as so does 2 and 3.

‘8’ is a good chore, if it divides the last three digits on a whole.

‘9’ will go into all just fine, if like 3, the sum is divisible by 9.

When ‘10’ comes we all should know, a number has to end in ZERO
