HISTORICAL FOUNDATIONS OF EDUCATION
A. What is the topic about?
The topic is about “Approaches to the History of Children’s Literature”. The
pedagogical view of this article has led to a certain bias in the general histories of
children’s literature. Only book that were considered “appropriate” for children have
been included in reference sources (Ewers).
B. What is your realization about the topic?
Children’s Literature emphasizes how important for developing young readers in
their early ages. It is the foundational pathways for a child’s language development and
acquisition on how they acquire knowledge through reading a storybook with more
pictures and images.
American author Ursula K. Le Guin said, “Children know perfectly well that
unicorns aren’t real, but they also know that books about unicorns, if they are good
books, are true books.”. it is very true that children’s literature is very important for
parents and teachers to promote an appreciation and love of reading in young readers,
which hopefully they will carry into adulthood. Being a teacher in secondary school
Grade 9 students, all I must do is to follow up their reading skills and knowledge about
literature. Are my students still recall the children’s literature during young ages? Maybe
yes, they can still remember those books they love to read.
It is very important to know the approaches to the history of children’s
literature because some of our literature as of today has been ignored. The second
approach according to Ewers is the triangle Child-Family-School. In this model, works of
literature have only minimalist or practical role in their relation to reality. This means
that most books for children were in fact produced only for educational purposes.
C. How can you apply your learning from the topic?
I could say that it is very important for me as a teacher the different approaches
to the history of children’s literature because it provides students with opportunities to
respond to literature; it gives students appreciation about their own culture and races
as well as those culture of other students.
In my case as adviser in Grade 9, I can apply what I have learned in this topic by
letting my students review or recall what previous literature they love to read and until
now they are able to recall the standard story structures and writing skills.
For me I will let my students read children’s literature and let them understand
the importance of literature in our daily life as part of our culture to step back and recall
a memorable characters and situation by nature of their particular age developmental
stages.

ANTHROPOLOGICAL FOUNDATIONS OF EDUCATION
A. What is the topic about?
The topic is about the “Positive teacher-student relationship go beyond the classroom,
problematic ones stay inside”. I find more interest in this research topic because it is my
experience in teaching for 4 years in secondary school especially in Grade 9 students.
B. What is your realization about the topic?
My realization about this topic is that teachers play a very important role in
building positive relationship with students. It highly requires effort from the teacher
because we handle diverse learners, they came from different races, culture, religion,
and they possess different characteristics which the teacher should know.
Research has shown the positive effects of teacher programs focused on
teacher-student relationship (e.g., / Alvarez, 2007; Roorda, Koomen, Thijs, & Oort,
2013). This means that the teacher should use strategy that build one-on-one teacher-
student relationship, so there is a big possibility of having a student with strong relation
with student motivation and learning, this simplify that the students learning is primarily
affected of what is the teacher strategy in building positive relationship with the
students.
However, not all teachers can engage with one-on-one relationship with
students especially those newly hired teachers, beginning teachers because some of
them maybe in the state of adjustments. As teacher we should possess versatility, go
with the flow. More adjustments gain more accomplishments in the end, happiness and
success of being an educator will be achievable.
C. How can you apply your learning from the topic?
For me as an educator I could say to myself that I am so devoted to my work as
a teacher. In my 4 years I teaching Grade 9 students, having problematic students in
terms of their behavior is always present in the class. As their adviser, observation
during class hours is very important on how they behave in class, are they participative,
quiet, noisy, always excusing, etc., and all their behavior is recorded for my bases.
During my class, I will call their attention from time to time so that they will focus on
listening and participating in the class discussion, I will not tolerate their bad attitude
during class hours. During extra-curricular activities or vacant hours, those students in
my list/record, I will talk to them one-by-one for a deeper conversation or heart to heart
talk so they can open their problems maybe family , financial, or their personal problem
that maybe they cannot open to their parents, as a second mother, I will listen to them.
This time, building Positive teacher-students relationship is started. Creating and
maintaining one-on-one relationship with students is a major teacher job satisfaction
and well-being.

PHILOSOPHICAL FOUNDATIONS OF EDUCATION
A. What is the topic about?
The topic is about “Challenges and Opportunities for Higher Education amid the
COVID-19 Pandemic: The Philippine Context. COVID-19 higher education institution in
188 countries in the whole world. It is the biggest challenge we are facing up to present,
but our government find ways and means to have continuous education despite this
pandemic we are suffering now.
B. What is your realization about the topic?
My realization about the topic is very serious because in the first-place
education is affected. How can we continue our studies amid Covid-19. So here comes
the Online learning which is Capitol University come up with CUDDLE. For me, it is one
of the School Systems establish as alternative modalities of continuing education during
the period of necessary social distancing and it helps a lot especially to those students
whose parents have more education, who also have other social advantages, and of
course they have also access to this kind of resources having gadgets and devices and
internet connectivity, so they can continue to enjoy this kind of program opportunities
to learn.
This time of pandemic, students should have been more knowledgeable in
following health standards and protocols which very important, it is the time to save the
entire generation of students from the most significant risk educational opportunity
they have experienced in their lives, and not only to the students but also to their
parents. In the Department of Education as government sector, the teachers should
take responsibility to lead a process that is effective and useful as possible in tackling
this adaptive challenge.
Higher education should integrate environmental and health courses in the
curriculum as a response to the needs of the world this time of pandemic. This
environmental and health courses should be accessible to all students on higher
education not only in science related majors since everybody deal with environmental
and health problems (Tűrkoglu, 2019).
C. How can you apply your learning from the topic?
I could apply this learning in my class though they are still in their college life
because as of today students should be wise and knowledgeable on what are the things,
they need to follow especially COVID-19 is still affecting our lifelong learning process. I
will prepare my students towards online learning modality and help them to become
aware of health management protocols to improve educational system in our country
even though most of our students came from remote places, wherein no connectivity
and gadgets available to be use in learning but they still have the chance to learn online
learning in preparation for their college life.
