1. 1. Does the appreciation of beauty make us better (perhaps more moral?) human
beings? Why?
Appreciation for beauty is innate to our nature and we are inclined to things that
are well done. The more we study of the appreciation of beauty the more we unveil
the other aspect of human nature since what the person fully appreciates and what
the person defines beauty according to him could somehow determine of who he is
as a person. Beauty in art could somehow reflect human expressions and
impressions that could be a subject for study and to broaden our knowledge of the
human person in the aspect of beauty. Yes beauty could contribute of making as
moral since one of the cause of the evil in this world is the lack of appreciation to
human and environmental dignity since we lose to see its beauty that is why it is
easy for us to disregard human life through abortion, euthanasia, killings and of
destroying the nature. If we can regain our sense of beauty in these creatures
created by God both rational and irrational then we learn to respect and protect
these.
2. In what sense is art an imitation of reality?
The traditional form of art is more in mirroring reality and the more accurate the art is
the higher value it is. But now art is no longer limited to portray reality because there
is an uprising genre of art that is totally different from traditional paintings and this
arts were abstract that has an underlying symbolism and meaning that should be
learned by the viewers. The contemporary art is also a form of expression for
example in the politics wherein one could use art in proposing political agendas and
philosophies. Art could be also serves as an entertainment like the anime, cartoons,
etc. Art could also the conveyer of message painted in the murals to express their
advocacy or call to the people. The sense that makes art an imitation of reality is that
when we relate our daily life in beholding that piece of art or somehow recalls us to a
specific moment in our life it could be joyous or a sorrowing event.
