2. Rahul finds that he is out of money and cannot pay his cable TV bill. He decides to
cancel the service and go back to the old rooftop antenna. However, the characteristic
impedance of the TV is 75 Ω , while the cable coming down from the antenna is 300
Ω. Help Rahul to design a matching network to match the two lines assuming that the
antenna is matched to the 300 Ω line and the TV is matched to the 75 Ω line. What
should be the length of the line assuming that TV transmission is centered around the
UHF band of 600 MHz?
4. (a) One method of determining the characteristics of a line is to measure the input
impedance at z = l (line disconnected from the source) when the receiving end is
opened for ZOC and when it is shorted for ZSC . Propose a method to calculate the
secondary constants of the line from the values of ZOC and ZSC . Assume that the
line is lossless.
(Read Measuring cable impedance)
(b) Measurements made on a 1 m long lossless cable indicate that ZSC = −j62Ω and
ZOC = j40.32Ω. Find the characteristics impedance and propagation constant of
the line.
5. A slotted line is a device used in measurement of impedance of an unknown load at high
frequencies. It consists of a section of a lossless transmission line, with a slot and probe
along its length. The probe measures the voltage value along the length of the line. A
50 Ω slotted line is terminated to a load with unknown impedance. The standing wave
ratio on the line is ρ = 2.4 and a voltage maximum occurs at a distance λ/8 from the
load.
(a) Determine the load impedance.
(b) How far is the first minimum from the load?
6. A 300 Ω lossless transmission line connected to a load has maximum and minimum
currents 20 A and 12 A respectively. Calculate the power delivered to the load?
