Zoom Guidelines

We will provide online office hours via Zoom. Our initial aim was to provide 8 hours per
day, Monday through Friday for ECC1000 (Clayton) & ECF1100 (Caulfield).

Moodle does not allow the 2 hour blocks we originally planned (10am-12pm, 12pm-2pm,
4pm-6pm and 6pm-8pm) to be loaded to both ECC100 and ECF1100 sites simultaneously.
Because of the above, we decided to break each 2 hour block into separate campus specific 1-
hour blocks with separate zoom codes

ECF1100 (Caulfield):
Office hours daily Monday to Friday:
• 11am – 12pm
• 1pm - 2pm
• 3pm - 4pm
• 5pm - 6pm (individual consultation by appointment only)

Contact Judy Taylor via email to make a 15 minute individual consultation appointment.

Email: Judith.Taylor1@monash.edu

Note: there will be only 4 individual appointments daily available. Bookings can only be
made up to 24 hours in advance.

How can I access office hours?

Answer: See the pdf on Moodle.

How do I get started? How do I join a Zoom meeting?

Answer:
● You will need a computer with reliable internet access and speakers. It is strongly
encouraged that you have a microphone to facilitate communication with peers and
the Teaching Assistant (tutor) in online office hours.
● If you have a number of online classes you may wish to invest in a headphones with a
microphone built in. They provide more reliable speakers and microphone sound
quality than typical computer / laptop built-in speakers and microphone
● If you choose not to invest in headphones, that’s fine as long as you have access to a
computer for the remainder of the semester with sound. You will need to consider
where you log in from. Places with background noise will be picked up by laptop
microphones and may make it difficult for people to hear you talk.

ZOOM Set Up

Zoom is software facilitating online meetings either between 2 individuals or groups of

people up to 500 participants. It is used by the university and businesses to complete
meetings from remote locations. We are going to use this software, freely available to
Monash University students for our online office hours.

For office hours to run smoothly and to maximise your learning, we need you to get the
software set up and some basic training completed before you start.
This is the link to download and set up Zoom, using your Monash University email address
and password to login in: https://monash.zoom.us/

Monash University has a partnership with LinkedIn Learning who have a short 45 minute
training course all students and Teaching Assistants (tutors) should complete before online
learning commences. This is to ensure we can focus on what we are really passionate about:
Economics! We understand it is new software and a new learning format for many students,
but if everyone has watched the LinkedIn Learning online training course it will ensure office
hours run smoothly and we can focus on helping students understand economic concepts.

To access LinkedIn Learning, you will need to log in using your Monash University student
email address and password. For more information:

The LinkedIn Learning 45 minute Zoom course is located here:

Once you have completed it you can download a certificate for your own records and include
it in your CV to demonstrate your online skills to future employers. We don’t need to see the
certificate; this is just a bonus for you! Something good is coming out of this situation!

What happens if I still need help?

Answer: For zoom troubleshooting, contact Peter Dupes: Peter.Dupes@monash.edu or

Thank you in advance for the time and effort you will put into setting up and familiarising
yourself with Zoom. We are looking forward to meeting you over upcoming weeks.
