Assignment
Weightage 20%
Deadline for submission: February 21
Work should be done individually. Else serious disciplinary actions will be taken.
The dataset you should be working with depends on the term‐3 studygroup assigned by the Program
office.
Students who are assigned to study‐ groups 1/2 / 3/ 4/ 5/6: should work with Ex superstore.xlsx
Students who are assigned to study‐groups 7/8/9/10/11/12/13: should work with Ex HH
livelihood.xlsx
State explicitly ten inference problems with your assigned data that you find to be the most appealing.
In choosing these ten problems, keep the following considerations in mind. You can create additional
variables (metrics) based on the given metrics.
1. In at least 4 of these problems, parameter(s) of interest should be average of some metric.
2. In at least 3 of these problems, parameter(s) of interest should be proportion of some kind.
3. In at least 1 of these problems, parameter(s) of interest should be standard deviation or
variance of some metric.
4. In exactly 1 of these problems, the issue can be answered using single metric only.
5. At least 6 of these problems should be some kind of testing of hypothesis, while at least 3 of
these should be confidence interval estimation.
6. At least one and at most three of these should be inference about single population.
7. At least three and at most five of these should be inference comparing two population.
8. At least two and at most four of these should be inference comparing more than two
population.
To solve each of these inference questions, use only pivot‐table to calculate the relevant summary
statistics. You can do all the work in excel and submit that file (or choose to transfer the relevant
details into a word file.
The first page (worksheet) should clearly list (and number) the 10 problems. In sequence, these
10 problems should be solved in the next 10 worksheets/pages. It is not enough to just do the
computation; the final answers need to be clearly articulated and highlighted.
The submission file(s) should be named as yourrollno.ext
Do not include the original data in your submission.
E mail submissions will not be considered.
Submissions delayed by 1 minute up to 1 day will attract automatic penalty of 25%; delay between
1 and 2 days will attract penalty of 50%. Delay beyond 2 days will not be considered. There will
not be any exceptions to this under any circumstances and hence you are advised to submit
several days in advance.
