ABSTRACT REFURBISHMENT PROJECT


Dewan Sri Budiman is located at Universiti Teknologi MARA, Shah Alam, Selangor, which was
formerly used as a convocation hall. This research was done to identify issues regarding the Existing
current condition of the hall, and to reveal its architectural and historical value. Dilapidation
survey using defect analysis method was done to clarify the overall condition of the hall,
measured drawing was carried out and a SWOT analysis was done. Findings showed that the
hall is in ‘fair’ condition, where the most types of defects found was damage and peeling of
paint in both internal and external parts of the building. Meanwhile, the element with the highest
numbers of defects was the internal ceiling and the highest category of defects found was the
maintenance. Despite the minor damage found during the dilapidation survey, this hall has
shown several strength and opportunity to be refurbished and reused as the most important
building in UiTM. Built as a convocation hall, it is spacious which is suitable for any events, and
can easily accessed from the main entrance. It is also important to reveal its architectural

value, which has been built during the establishment of the university itself with a modern
architectural style.

INTRODUCTION
Dewan Sri Budiman located at the UiTM Shah Alam and was built on 1976. This building one of
the oldest building for education purpose. Previous functions of the building for convocation day,
examination hall, performance UiTM’s student and also talks. But nowadays, this building no
longer used due to cannot cater the big capacity of student for big event such as convocation
day. Approximate area of the Dewan Sri Budiman is 3369.41 and proved this building no
suitable for big event with high capacity students.

METHODOLOGY `
