1. Introduction

Water seepage is a common and major problem of high-rise building. Leakage leads
to dampness, erosion of the reinforcement, the deterioration of the concrete, fungal
growth and seriously affect the function of structure, as well as destroy the outward
appearance of the building. If water seepage can be prevented, almost 85% building
flaws can be lowered. Therefore, a better waterproofing system is essential to provide
a structurally safe condition and resistance or defense against ingress of water into the
concrete structure for a building. Concrete defects are common problems to lead the
water seepage as casting concrete are inappropriate to use of vibrator to appear a
construction joints, it is a main reason led to the seepage problem in future, so a
suitable waterproofing membrane can be effective to shop the water ingress into the
structure.

Waterproofing system is one important element in building which can be divided into
traditional and advanced waterproofing system such as brick bat coba system,
bituminous membrane/coating, Box-type waterproofing system, cementitious
waterproofing, liquid waterproofing membrane and polyurethan liquid membrane are
common in the waterproofing of buildings. According to report shown that
waterproofing only occupy approximate 1% cost of whole building, if you are
ignored, it can be bringing about nearly 90% of the injure of cost. Thus, choosing a
suitable of waterproofing system, it is an important to know and understand the
applied area as a different location will apply corresponding waterproofing system.
Basement area, toilet, kitchen, podium, balcony, interior swimming pool, Water Tank
are the primary parts of building structure which the most opportunity suffer affected
due to water seepage.

1.1 Objective & Aim

The aim of this project is mainly focus on the rapid development of waterproofing
system to effectively resolve the water seepage problem.

1. To study the method statement of waterproofing system on construction sites

2. To examine waterproofing chemicals and materials adopted on site.
3. To adopt a stipulate waterproofing system under the case study work
2. Methodology

1. Comparison of advantages and disadvantages of various waterproofing systems

based on cost, durability and ease to use.
2. Selection of corresponding areas / sites of similar conditions for case studies
3. Periodical Inspect for construction site and study interrelated daily works.
4. Interviews with relevant experts / users / sellers about the quality of different
waterproofing materials or products and actual experience in use
5. Investigation of different laboratory test reports / technical data of waterproofing
chemicals and materials
6. Examination of waterproofing systems in different site visits

3. Literature Review

According to Saurabh Borle, Ghadge A.N., that the conventional methods were
widely used in the past but contain a different disadvantage such as brick bat coba will
be cracks due to temperature diversification and impossible to dismantle for
maintenance. In order to improve all disadvantages of conventional methods, so
modern waterproofing techniques are universal used. Membrane method and surface
coating are common applied in building. A modern waterproofing technique are
relatively expensive but provides a better protection and effective to prevent the water
seepage between a leakage and more durable. Moreover, advanced waterproofing
systems are higher cost, but it can make up the insufficiently of traditional
waterproofing system as well as the scope of use is more diversification and effective
to improve water seepage problem. Therefore, advanced waterproofing systems are
better than a traditional waterproofing system.

According to Zhineng Tong, wetproof project is a systematic project, it relates to

waterproofing material, waterproof engineering design, construction technology, the
management of building and other aspects of the building. Toilet, external wall,
roofing are common quality defects and must be taken seriously. The water seepages
have severely affected the normal use of the users, but it can be avoided. If the
construction process have stick control, take effective prevention and control
measures, it will be able to achieve the anticipated the goal.

5. Conclusion

Water Seepages are common problem in building such as roofing, toilet, balcony,
kitchen etc. If we don’t have a good solution to solve the problem, it will bring about
a critical damage for a building structure and seriously affected ordinary use of the
user. Therefore, a suitable waterproofing system is a comprehensive and especially
important, it can be effective to use of membranes and coating to protect the structure
and contents as well as prevent the water ingress the concrete, it can validly improve
the water seepage problems.
