CHAPTER III

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the methods that will be used in this research. This

chapter also consists of the process and control narrative, materials and their

specifications, detailed design of the prototype, and the testing and evaluation

that will be employed in this study.

The researchers will utilize the developmental method of research.

Developmental research often entails designing, developing and evaluating

instructional programs, processes, and products in accordance to a specific

criterion of internal consistency and effectiveness.

This study is designed to: 1.) Convert solar energy to electrical energy to

charge the battery that will power up the whole the prototype, and 2.) Extract

humid air from the atmosphere that will be undergoing several processes like

condensation and filtration to produce alternative potable water.

Process Narrative

The portable water extractor works by converting filtered atmospheric air

to pressurized air using a compressor. The air is then passed through a set of

condenser pipes where its temperature is decreased. The air condenses to liquid

state and is passed through a filtration system and then stored in a tank. The

project will have four stages of purification. The first process will be using

sediment filters to remove rust and dust, thus also protecting the second filter.

Carbon filter will be the second process for filtering water where it will eliminate

the odor-causing contaminants. Reverse osmosis will be the next process, and

this will reduce the unwanted substances such as colorant, dirt, and heavy

metals. It will also eliminate inorganic and organic compounds while reducing

impurities. To kill all harmful pathogens, disinfection using ultraviolet lamps will

be used for the final step.
