OFFICE OF THE REGISTRAR

3rd January, 2022

Dear Students,

RE: JANUARY INTAKE FIRST YEARS REPORTING ON 14TH JANUARY, 2022

On behalf of Uganda Martyrs University (UMU), I take the opportunity to thank you for choosing
UMU to carry out your University education. I further congratulate you for persevering amidst the
challenges of the new normal.

The purpose of this letter is to inform you that your reporting date is 14th February, 2022. All other
dates communicated to you are therefore cancelled. I regret the inconvenience this may cause to
you.

As you may be aware, the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) granted UMU
permission to roll-out the Emergency Open, Distance and e-Learning (ODeL) for all our
programmes as the NEW NORMAL mode of delivery. Therefore, the University is using
MOODLE as a Learning Management System (LMS). And on this note, UMU will continue
reaching out to you through a blended mode of teaching and learning. That is to say, for some
lectures you will have face-to-face teaching session and for others, you will be using online teaching
platforms which will be made clear to you during the orientation period.

Thus, in order for you to access UMU’s Online Teaching and Learning, you will be required to
have at least a SMART PHONE and/or a LAPTOP. You will also be required to have access to
Internet or have data that can enable you to access online teaching and learning. For this reason,
you are requested to come prepared to adopt this New Normal mode of delivery as already
mentioned above.

In the Presidential Directives and Guidelines given at the close of last year (2021) it was made clear
that in view of opening up all schools, all teachers and support staff were to be vaccinated. This
also included students aged 18 years and above in Post-Secondary Institutions. It is in this regard
that ALL students are to ensure that they meet all the required SOPs. More importantly, ALL
students must be vaccinated before they are permitted to access all University Premises. For this
reason you are requested to come along with your Covid-19 Vaccination Client Card or Certificate
which will be presented for verification on the reporting day.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING IMPORTANT DATES:

1) You are expected to report at your respective Campuses to commence the First Semester of

check it or at least make it active so that you do not miss out any official information sent by
the University. This is even more important now that we are continuing to engage you
through Online Teaching and Learning platforms. Once again, the email accounts I am
talking about are the UMU Students’ Emails which will be given to you during the
