Is the teaching of Rizal course realistic given the dangers and sensitivity of literature as
means of communication in learning nationalism, patriotism, and volunteerism? Do we really
learn nationalism and patriotism with the present pedagogy of Rizal course?

Rizal's efforts have had and continue to have a profound impact on the current state of
our country. Jose Rizal's unique insights on nationalism, patriotism, and volunteerism should be
taught to students, educators, and the Filipino people. Being proud of and loyal to one's country
leads to the attainment of liberty and political independence. Patriotism, on the other hand, is a
feeling of loyalty and love for one's nation, as well as a desire to risk one's life for it. Finally,
volunteerism is a conscious act or practice of assisting the country.

Rizal taught in a way that was relevant to what was going on at the time. Studying Rizal's
life and accomplishments is useful to our country's development; he is fond of reminding us of
his famous adage, "The pen is mightier than the sword," which implies that the written word is a
more powerful communication tool than violence. Rizal not only used the pen to battle our
invaders, but he also used it to become the pen himself, speaking for the Filipinos at the time. He
also highlighted the true value and significance of education. He spent his life working to
educate our country and shape us into the individuals we are today. His works serve as a
testament to our cherished country's patriotism.Because Jose Rizal invented nationalism, he is
known as the "Father of Nationalism," and it must be taught to children and teenagers. That is
why Jose Rizal's life, works, and writings, particularly his novels Noli me Tangere and El
Filibusterismo, were compelled to be taught in all schools under Republic Act 1425, often known
as the Rizal Law. In addition to the Rizal Law, Malacaang Memorandum Order No. 247, sec.

Republic Act 1425, enacted in 1994, requires that Republic Act 1425 be fully implemented in all
Philippine schools. Another memorandum from the Commission of Higher Education (CHED)
No. 3, s.1995, indicates that the teaching of Jose Rizal's life, works, and writings, especially his
two novels Noli me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, must be included in college courses.

We learn about the meanings of nationalism, patriotism, and volunteerism in the Rizal
course. Looking at how Jose Rizal dealt with various situations can teach us a lot about his life.
Demonstrating that loving your country without resorting to violence or weapons is possible.
Throughout his life, Jose Rizal endured significant problems and difficulties, but he coped with
them in a dignified and high-minded manner. Through his words, he aroused and fired Filipino
nationalism. Because of their growing passion for their motherland, the majority of Filipinos are
willing to die just to be free of Spanish colonial control. Filipinos showed their patriotism and
nationalism on the day of the GomBurZa's execution.I believe that the implementation of Rizal
Law will teach us a lot, and that we will be able to rededicate our lives to the values of freedom
and nationalism for which our heroes fought and died. In addition, to honor our national hero for
devoting his life and efforts to the development of the Filipino character. It's a fantastic
opportunity for me as a student to learn Rizal's name, as well as his excellent works and
nationalism, which I'm studying as part of a Rizal course. Since I was in elementary school, I've
learned a lot about our national hero, and as the name Rizal continues to be discussed in class, it's
given me a stronger appreciation for him, and knowing him while learning from him makes me
even more proud to be a Filipino citizen.

Literature, or written works, is another factor to examine. A wide spectrum of authors has
written about Filipino nationalism, patriotism, and volunteerism, resulting in a large body of
literature. We can't be sure if such works of literature were real, credible, and relevant when it
came to the information because some authors have their own views, opinions, and notions that
were mixed in with the information collected. Exaggeration, bias, or a lack of information are all
possibilities. Thankfully, Jose Rizal's life works and writings are included in our country's

curriculum. It shows us how to show our affection for our nation without resorting to violence or
weaponry. There are also laws and regulations in place to ensure that Rizal's life and works are
taught in Philippine schools. I feel the Rizal Law is extremely beneficial in instilling patriotism
in students like us because it motivates us to become better citizens, and when Dr. Rizal
proclaimed, "The Youth is the Hope of the Fatherland," it inspired everyone who heard it to be
more responsible and love their country.
